Alex Walters doesn’t hide behind her welding mask when she’s at LDI, and in recent years, she’s also removed it at conferences, as a panellist, to encourage more women to go into the trades.
“Being a woman in this trade has been incredibly rewarding,” she said. “I have spoken at many conferences for women in the trades over the years and I enjoy supporting and encouraging other women to join as well.”
Alex added that her supervisors have been so supportive, and said Riely Deveux has been “hands down the most supportive she’s ever met, making the workplace a welcoming and positive experience.”
Hailing from Thunder Bay and a Confederation College alumni, Alex moved to Kenora after school to work at a welder. It was her father who convinced her to enrol in the welding program, and turned out, she really enjoyed it. A few years ago, she began working at LDI as a contract welder and became an employee just over a year ago.
Thank you, Alex, for sharing your insight into becoming a welder and your experience as welder at LDI. 🤩
