It’s official… I’m running to be the next President of the Jamaican Canadian Association! 🇯🇲🇨🇦
Over the past six years as Fundraising Board Director, I’ve had the honour of raising over $1 million for the JCA — funding building upgrades, seniors programming, youth initiatives, and hiring our first full-time staff in a decade. I’m not coming in with promises. I’m coming in with a track record.
As President, I will:
✅ Invest in youth, young adults, and the next generation of JCA leaders.
✅ Advocate for affordable housing and seniors wellness.
✅ Champion our community’s voice with government and partners.
✅ Build on our legacy while moving boldly forward
For 63 years, the JCA has not just been an association but it’s been a home away from home. And I’m ready to fight for it.
Stay tuned for more. The best is yet to come. 💚

What makes a DEI program truly successful? Here are 5 key drivers every organization need to know from the Parity Alliance’s report on DEI leaders named Lighthouses 🌟

Building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace isn’t just about good intentions—it requires thoughtful action, strategy, and accountability. This week, we explored five critical drivers that can make or break your DEI efforts:

1️⃣ Understanding the root causes of inequities: Without this, solutions may miss the mark.
2️⃣ Defining success clearly: What does success look like for your organization? Be specific.
3️⃣ Leadership accountability: Leaders must not only be invested but also held accountable for progress.
4️⃣ Contextual solutions: Tailor strategies to fit your organization’s unique context, rather than applying one-size-fits-all approaches.
5️⃣ Tracking and adjusting: Rigorous monitoring is essential—course corrections ensure you stay on the right path.

By focusing on these areas, organizations can create DEI programs that aren’t just well-intentioned but effective and sustainable.

“Unity in diversity” – a beautiful vision, but how do we truly achieve it? 🌍

Mahatma Gandhi once said, “Our ability to reach unity in diversity will be the beauty and the test of our civilization.” These words hold more relevance today than ever before.

In our workplaces, communities, and society, diversity can be a powerful force for innovation, creativity, and growth. But true unity requires more than just acknowledging our differences—it demands active inclusion, empathy, and a commitment to understanding each other.

When we embrace diversity, we create spaces where every voice is valued, and where differences become strengths rather than barriers. This is the test of our civilization: Can we work together to create a future where everyone belongs?

As we reflect on Gandhi’s words, let’s challenge ourselves to take meaningful steps toward building unity in our own circles. How can you make your workplace more inclusive today?

Let’s take a moment to celebrate the women who paved the way! 🎉

Person’s Day is a reminder of the power of resilience and determination. Today, we honour the courageous women who fought for equal recognition in society, and we acknowledge that this fight continues.

From the Famous Five’s battle to have women recognized as “persons” under the law to today’s ongoing efforts to promote gender equity, we must keep pushing forward. Progress happens when we not only celebrate the past but also commit to action in the present.

Gender equality is not a destination but a journey we all walk together. Let’s keep moving toward a future where everyone has a seat at the table.

✨ What steps can you take today to make your workplace more inclusive?

Mentorship is a two-way street, and that’s what makes it so powerful. ✨

I’ve had the joy of mentoring others throughout my career and personal life—whether guiding young women on their career paths, supporting the growth of nonprofits and businesses, or sharing in spiritual growth. It’s one of the most fulfilling parts of what I do.

But here’s the thing: Mentorship is a partnership. It’s not just about sharing knowledge; it’s about learning from each other. My mentees teach and inspire me just as much as I do for them! And as a mentee myself at times, I find real value in learning from someone else’s wisdom and experience.

Finding the right mentor is key. Look for someone who aligns with your values and is ready to invest in the relationship as much as you are. When both people show up to give and receive, that’s when true growth happens.

So, I want to ask: What makes your mentoring relationships thrive? What values do you look for in a mentor? Let’s continue this conversation together!

Thank you, Constable, for being a fantastic mentor over these past few months! 🙏
