The 2025 theme for International Women's Day is to 'Accelerate Action', especially around gender equality in education, employment, and leadership.

While that's great, there are ultimately many struggles that require action, and the psychological ones are often hardest to recognise or call out.

Motherhood, whether you choose to work or stay home, comes with its own societal pressures. 

And so, for this International Women's Day, I would like to recognise all the Mothers out there and to shed light on their struggles.

Happy International Women's Day. This poem is for you:

Not many people have the courage to stand up for what they believe in.
Few are so serious about their passions, they'd take a bullet for it. 
Fewer are considered worldwide heroes.
Only one can claim to have all of the above, and be the youngest Nobel Peace Prize Winner.

2024 had many highlights, but little compares to meeting Malala Yousafzai (the serendipitous encounter, a story for another time). As I reflect on this encounter, and the year, it inspires me to lean more into my passions, whether it’s around Career Development, Education or Women Empowerment.

And so, as we step into 2025, I encourage you to lean into your own passions. You may find that it helps to keep you focused on what's important, even when the year brings it own challenges.

Wishing you all a successful, content and peaceful year ahead. 💖

Wrote this little poem with the following in mind:

Everyone’s fighting their own battles. Some battles are apparent, but often, the invisible ones are those related to mental health.

As we commemorate World Mental Health Day, it reminds me that we’re fortunate to live in a time where employees can discuss mental health, and where work environments are using good work-life balance and mental health benefits as means to attract talent.

These are ways in which we can show compassion to our employees. It's a reminder to treat each other with kindness.

More so, it's a reminder that whatever battles you may have, you are not alone. 🤗

Wrote this little poem 2 years ago, and each year, it encourages me to say "Goodbye" and "Hello" to something different...

This year, as we celebrate International Women's Day, let us remember to say:

Goodbye to putting women down, and
Hello to lifting others up.

Goodbye to oppressive cultures, and
Hello to progressiveness.

Goodbye to not having a voice, and
Hello to speaking up.

Goodbye to archaic work practices, and
Hello to being equals.

Because when you say "Goodbye" to these past practices, you're saying "Hello" to a more beautiful, inclusive future 🩵

Hello, everyone! I'm back (well, only partially).😊 As some of you know, I've recently immigrated and have had to take time off.

What that's meant is quitting my job in SA and temporarily assuming the role I've always rejected for myself, the role of a "homemaker." And boy has it taught me a lot!

I have a newfound respect for women and men who choose to do the homemaker role, and I want you to know I see your value and your worth. 🩶

Having said that, this piece resonated very deeply with me. Growing up in a community where there was an emphasis on girls to keep the home clean, I feel it's important to remind both women and men about this. Because you are more than linking your self-worth to how clean your home is 🤗

2022 - The Year of DISCOVERY

DISCOVERING that life is short, but also that I can show gratitude to people while they're alive

DISCOVERING that the people I idolized were fallible (including many celebs I met 😉), but also that I'm fallible too

DISCOVERING that life is relentless with undiscovered trauma and challenges, but also that I can get through them

DISCOVERING who my true friends and family are, and overwhlemed by all the love and support this year

DISCOVERING an appreciation of my hometown, but also that I can make a new town my home

DISCOVERING I'd need to say goodbye to people I love, but also discovering new people I've come to love and appreciate

DISCOVERING that I can become domesticated (who knew 😳), but also that it doesn't have to be oppressive 🙂

DISCOVERING natural beauty and birds I never knew existed, and in that rediscovering my adventurous spirit

DISCOVERING that my passions are talents, but also that REST is sometimes more important than passions

DISCOVERING more of who I am, and rediscovering my heritage (new family, masala chai etc.), where I came from and who I want to be

DISCOVERING that when you bid farewell to some things, it also makes space for new good things to come into your life

2022, you were the most CHALLENGING year of my life, but along with the challenges, you provided many adventures and, most importantly, the gift of SELF-DISCOVERY. 🍁

Wishing you all a new year filled with love, health, and happiness

My next article was published on leading job portal Careers24 and also featured in the University of Johannesburg 's Career Magazine. It was written during the time when the whole world was in lockdown.

I remember how switching to online interviews came with unique challenges - something that both recruiters and candidates weren't prepared for.
