🚨 CANADA TEMPORARILY SUSPENDS VISAS DUE TO EBOLA OUTBREAK 🚨

Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Lena Diab, has announced temporary immigration restrictions in response to the ongoing Ebola outbreak affecting the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan.

Effective May 27, 2026, Canada has suspended immigration documents for residents of these countries for 90 days. This includes Temporary Resident Visas (TRVs), eTAs, work permits, study permits, and even previously approved permanent resident visas. During this period, IRCC will continue processing applications but will not issue final decisions on new or existing applications from residents of the affected countries.

The federal government has stated that these measures are precautionary and intended to reduce the risk of Ebola entering Canada. Additional public health measures, including mandatory screening and quarantine requirements for certain travelers, have also been introduced.

🇨🇴🇨🇦 Did you know some Colombian citizens may qualify for a Canadian work permit, without an LMIA?

Under the Canada–Colombia Free Trade Agreement (CCOFTA), certain applicants can access LMIA-exempt work permit pathways through Canada’s International Mobility Program (IMP). This means eligible employers may not need to complete the lengthy Labour Market Impact Assessment process before hiring.

Potential categories can include:
✔️ Professionals in qualifying occupations with the required credentials and a Canadian job offer
✔️ Intra-company transferees (managers, executives, or workers with specialized knowledge transferring within the same company)
✔️ Business visitors for specific commercial activities
✔️ Investors or traders in qualifying circumstances under the agreement

However, “LMIA-exempt” does not mean automatic approval. Applicants still need to meet eligibility requirements, and employers may still need to submit compliance information through IRCC’s Employer Portal. Occupation mismatches, weak documentation, or incorrect exemption categories can lead to refusals.

The C10 work permit, also known as the “Significant Benefit to Canada” pathway under the International Mobility Program, may allow eligible foreign nationals to work in Canada if their presence brings clear economic, social, or cultural benefits to the country.

This pathway can apply to individuals creating jobs, filling critical skill gaps, contributing to communities, or demonstrating recognized achievements in their field. Eligibility is highly case-specific, and strong evidence is key. 👀
