During the nearly three-day mission, she orbited Earth 48 times, demonstrating that women could successfully meet the demands of human spaceflight at a time when opportunities in science, engineering and aviation remained heavily male-dominated.

Her mission became a defining moment in both space exploration and the broader history of women in STEM.

“Rather than purely untargeted analysis, the data was mined in a semi-targeted way by extracting fragment ions characteristic of the exemestane steroid core, in particular, the core fragment at m/z 297.”

In this case study, Andrew explores how combining high-resolution LC–MS screening with fragment ion-driven data mining enables the detection of both known metabolites and previously uncharacterised species, offering deeper insight into metabolic pathways.
