Sometimes you gotta laugh to keep from crying 😿

The times that are a changin 🎶

Is that a good thing? Or a bad thing?

The 3 biggest issues in construction ⬇️ And none of them are the schedule.

1️⃣ Design/Constructability Gap — the distance between what was drawn and what can actually be built, and the fact that the people who know the difference usually aren’t in the room when it matters.

2️⃣ Knowledge/Experience Transfer — decades of judgment sitting in the heads of people who are leaving, with no reliable mechanism to move it to the people staying.

3️⃣ Tech Saviour Syndrome — buying software to fix problems that are actually about behaviour. New platform, same meeting, same person who still won’t say the schedule doesn’t work.

Notice what all three have in common. None of them are technical problems. Every one is about whether information moves between the people who have it and the people who need it.

We are extraordinarily good at building things and remarkably bad at talking to each other while we do it.

Just me? 🤷‍♂️

It’s not rocket science 🧬

Just meet people’s basic needs.

It’s simple… and free… so why is it so often missed?

But actually, why? 👇

1 in 4.

That’s how many pregnancies end in loss.

Some of those parents are on your crew right now. Back at work like nothing happened, because on most sites that’s the expectation.

It’s not nothing. It’s a child they were already building a life around.

If it’s you: your grief is real. Take the time. Tell one person.

If it’s someone on your crew: you don’t need the perfect words. “I heard. I’m sorry. Take what you need.” That’s enough.

98% of mega projects become delayed or over budget ⬇️

77% of mega projects globally are 40% or more behind schedule.

At a 98% failure rate it stops being a series of unfortunate events. That’s not bad luck repeating itself — that’s a system producing exactly what it was built to produce.

So who is preparing these schedules and budgets, and what are they missing?

Usually: the people who will actually have to build it. The schedule gets set by people who won’t be standing on the deck when it doesn’t work, and handed to people who knew it wouldn’t on day one.

The ones who could have told you are often the ones with the least room to speak. That’s not a scheduling failure. That’s a culture failure with a Gantt chart attached to it.

What are they missing? 👇

It’s not about the Benjamins 💵

Well that’s part of it.

I fell into construction as a fluke but I stayed because of a passion.

After 20 years I am making good money but that wasn’t always the case.

It’s tough in the beginning and I think that’s why not everyone lasts.

What’s your experience been? 👇

How many apprentices are required to replace the 4+ MILLION construction retirees in the next ten years? 🤔

Any guesses? 👇

Hint: it’s not a 1:1 ratio…

Because only about a third finish the program. So the entry number has to be multiplied before anyone has swung a hammer on your job.

And a first-year is not a thirty-year hand. You aren’t replacing a body — you’re replacing decades of judgment about when something is about to go wrong. That arrives years after the ticket does.

Which is why “we hired twelve” and “we replaced twelve” are completely different sentences. We keep reporting the first one and assuming it means the second.

What’s your number? 👇
