I took inspiration for this lighting idea from a Leonard Cohen Poetry book called "The Flame "

I really was haunted by the quote below, it had me imagining ways to visualize what i felt when I read it.

“I was always working steady
But I never called it art
Meeting Jesus reading Marx
Sure it failed my little fire
But it's bright the dying spark
Go tell the young messiah
What happens to the heart”
― Leonard Cohen, The Flame

Torontonians voiced "firm determination to resist" annexation of Canada by the United States in this petition from 1849, rebuking a proposal from a group in Montreal.

The pro-annexation movement was outlined in the Montreal Annexation Manifesto (1849). The movement faded once Canada and the United States signed a free trade treaty in 1854.

We preserve this draft petition in our Baldwin Collection of Canadiana, one of the largest research collections of primary sources of Canadian history. View the petition in person at Toronto Reference Library on the 5th floor or online: https://digitalarchive.tpl.ca/objects/282064
