FREEDOM OF SPEECH IS A HUMAN RIGHT — NOT A PRIVILEGE.
International human-rights law protects the right to speak, question, criticize, disagree and peacefully express an opinion.
📜 Article 19 — Universal Declaration of Human Rights
⚖️ Article 19 — International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights
Freedom of expression includes the right to seek, receive and share information and ideas across borders.
You do not have to agree with someone's voice to respect their right to have one.
Democracy requires dialogue.
Accountability requires questions.
Freedom requires the right to peacefully disagree.
Silencing peaceful criticism does not strengthen society. Protecting the space for different voices does.
🕊️ Speak peacefully. Question responsibly. Protect human rights.

What if Laila isn’t only speaking to your child… but to the child you once were?
Sometimes we grow up, but parts of our childhood grow up with us.
The little girl who wanted to belong.
The little girl who compared herself to others.
The little girl who questioned her beauty, her worth, her culture, or where she fit in.
The little girl who learned to stay quiet about feelings she did not yet have the words to explain.
She may still be there.
That is part of the deeper purpose behind Laila’s Diaries.
Laila gives children language for emotions, identity, self-worth, culture and belonging—but her questions can also become a mirror for the adults reading beside them.
When Laila asks, “Who am I?”
What would your younger self have answered?
When Laila learns to appreciate the skin she was born in, what does that awaken in you?
When she searches for belonging, do you remember the places where you once felt you did not belong?
When she learns that her feelings deserve to be heard, can you extend that same compassion to the child you once were?
Perhaps healing does not always begin with a big conversation.
Sometimes it begins with a story.
A child turns the page.
An adult remembers.
A conversation begins.
And two generations are given an opportunity to understand themselves differently.
That is the heart of Laila’s Diaries.
Not simply teaching children emotional literacy—but creating a space where parents, caregivers, educators and children can talk about the things previous generations may never have had the language to discuss.
Read Laila’s story with a child.
Then ask yourself:
What did Laila receive that the younger me needed too?
You cannot rewrite your childhood.
But you can choose what you carry forward.
And perhaps, while helping Laila find her voice, you may rediscover your own.
Laila’s Diaries — stories for the children we are raising and the children we once were.
