Our sincere thanks to & for bringing the orchestra and opera communities together in Edmonton last week. We left feeling inspired by countless conversations and a deep sense of optimism for the future. It was great to see so many familiar faces and make new connections too. Let’s do it again sometime, shall we?

Tim Crouch and Michael Morreale, Principals at The Arts Firm, will be attending the O₂ Joint Conference in Edmonton from February 3–5.

The O₂ Conference is the most significant national gathering for orchestra and opera professionals in Canada, bringing together colleagues from across the country for learning, exchange, and strategic conversation.

We’re looking forward to reconnecting with peers, meeting new colleagues, engaging in thoughtful sessions, and having meaningful conversations about the challenges and opportunities facing orchestras and opera companies today. If you’ll be there, we’d love to connect.

Continuing Our Commitment to Canada’s Arts Sector

The Arts Firm is delighted to welcome its new Principals, Michael Morreale and Tim Crouch. In November 2023, Concerts in Care Ontario engaged The Arts Firm to address overwhelming demand for their product, while facing serious capacity challenges. Beginning with an assessment and recommendations in both Fund Development and Marketing & Communications, the project then shifted to reviewing what is most needed to grow their operations from an HR perspective.

Congratulations to Cantabile Choirs of Kingston, who just completed their season with a moving concert titled ‘Considering Matthew Shepard’, at The Spire in Kingston, Ontario.

The Arts Firm worked with Cantabile Choirs from November 2023 to March 2024 to create a strategic plan to guide this very unique organization. Using a Strategy Cascade model, the team worked with Cantabile to focus on what makes it unique, play to its strengths, understand key conditions to succeed, and invest strategically in its future.

On October 6, 1998, University of Wyoming student Matthew Shepard was kidnapped, beaten, and left to die in what became an infamous act of brutality, and one of America’s most notorious anti-gay hate crimes.

CONSIDERING MATTHEW SHEPARD is a 3-part oratorio for soloists, chorus, and chamber orchestra. Written by Craig Hella Johnson, this piece is an evocative and compassionate musical response to Shepard’s murder, and a call-to-action that swept the nation.
