Social media is a funny thing; as the years have gone by I truly feel like social media should be about real, organic interactions. It's something personal where people can connect, share things that bring them joy, and relax.

I haven't used my business Facebook or Instagram much since 2021... not because I don't enjoy social media itself, but because I don't like using it as a means of selling and promoting.

That may have worked before, but it's not what people want out of their social media experience now. And I feel that.

I'll post occasionally; but my website is where I can be found!

With 2020 (and 2021) being filled with Covid cancellations, I took the opportunity to completely revamp the system that runs the business and 2022 has been phenomenal as a result.

A huge component to that success has been Dubsado. If you're a small business owner and haven't mastered your CRM yet, you need to give Dubsado a shot!

There's no question about it - Ontario is in it's 4th wave.
So what does that mean for those who have events coming up? 💒
..nobody's sure right now. 🤷

With rising numbers every day and vaccination rates that are all but reaching a plateau, the government hasn't indicates (as of writing this post) any additional public health measures or rollbacks but some experts are predicting that once school goes back, increased measures will be impossible to ignore.

✨IF✨ rollbacks are announced - please keep the following in mind if you have a 2021 event. I'm speaking in general terms here as I want to reach as many folks as possible with this message.

1️⃣ Make every effort to work within the restrictions. Postponing an event is always a choice you can make, but rescheduling will get tricky because many vendors have full (or nearly full) 2022 calendars.

2️⃣ Nobody knows if 2022 will be any different than 2021 (we all thought 2021 would be great back in 2020 and look where we are now...)

3️⃣ If you haven't gotten your vaccines yet - do it! Same for your wedding party, family and friends. If the idea of a 'vaccine passport' happens, they'll likely need this to be a part of your event. It's best to get your ducks in order now because it takes time for immunity to happen after the shots!

4️⃣ You can make your event a safer space by choosing to invite only vaccinated guests to your event (which may affect whether or not you have children under 12 at your event) especially if your event is indoors

5️⃣ Keep open communication with your vendors about intentions - the earlier you can loop them I to conversations, the earlier they can help guide you through this.

In the coming weeks, we truly hope each and every one of you stays safe.
Reach out to your vendors for help with any questions you have; we're always happy to help as best we can to guide clients through these times.

xoxo

When I went to Wards Island with Matt + Greg for their engagement session, I was so surprised to see how busy the island was. Folks are getting out and enjoying life again and I truthfully have mixed feelings about it. I totally get the people need to live, but I have such a hesitancy in going back to "normal" knowing my little guy isn't eligible for the vaccine yet.

Here's to hoping that 2021 keeps getting better, people keep staying safe, and that love will flourish and we'll see our happy couples tie the knot!! 🥂🎊

Pride month is over, but it doesn't mean that our ability to educate ourselves is over; part of what I do is educate others in the industry so here it is.....

One of the things that I don't see discussed very often is the fact that being an inclusive business isn't just about showing your "same s*x" couples that you are happy to work with them. There are so many couples out there that can be straight PASSING but can still have one or both of the individuals who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community - so we can't assume that straight passing couples aren't a part of the LGBTQIA+ community!

You may experience interactions with straight passing couples where:

❤️ One or both are bis*xual
🧡 One or both is gender fluid
💛 One or both pans*xual
💚 One or both is non-binary
💙 One or both is as*xual
💜 One or both is transgender
💗 One or both is inters*x
🤎 One or both is q***r
🖤 One or both is demis*xual
🤍 One or both is questioning
... And here's the thing: they may not be disclosing their s*xual orientation to you because it's none of your business! And they may not even share their pronouns with you if you haven't first opened up the conversation to make them feel safe to do so by ensuring that you are sharing your pronouns...
... But they still may judge you based on how inclusive you are as a business and they may not choose to work with you, despite styles and budgets aligning, if they don't feel like you are truly an ally!!

It is important to note that straight passing couples do have some privileges that other more marginalized people within the LGBTQIA+ community do not, so it's important to understand intersectionality when you are working on being an ally and I simply can't address all of that in just one post.

The point of this post is to highlight the importance of understanding that inclusivity is an ALL THE TIME THING and not just during pride month. It's also to bring awareness to the fact that our cis-het couples may still identify within the LGBTQIA+ community, they are absolutely VALID, and working with inclusive businesses may be very high on their priority list!!!

There are some photographers out there who are anti-science and making some uncalled for public statements in regards to COVID and the COVID vaccination, so let's add a little bit of EVIDENCE-BASED information into the world.

Photography inherently involves people taking OFF their masks so you can see their faces? How and when can we do this safely?

Photography safety during COVID-19 is crucial; we're photographing maskless clients so our job is to keep everybody safe. My 2-cents on safety
