Your Canadian work permit expired… so can you still keep working? 🇨🇦👀

If you applied to extend your status before your current permit expired, maintained status (formerly called implied status) may allow you to stay in Canada and, in certain circumstances, continue working while you wait for a decision.

But the rules depend on your situation, so don’t assume you’re automatically covered.

Ontario’s immigration minister just said draws under the Ontario Workforce Priority Stream are coming and rural draws could run as early as this week.

Ontario is also in active talks with the federal government to increase this year’s nomination allocation.

Ontario’s quota is limited, when the draws run, they will be fast and they will be small. And they only pull from profiles already sitting in the EOI pool. If your Expression of Interest is not in — or it’s in with incorrect details — the draw will pass you like you don’t exist. No warning. No second chance until the next one.

A wrong entry in your EOI scoring is just as bad as having no EOI at all. Ontario ranks candidates and invites from the top. One missing document, one incorrect job title, one wrong wage entry changes your rank entirely.

If you have a qualifying Ontario job offer and you are not in the pool yet — today is the day to move.
