What do these 18 students have in common? They’ve all been recipients of the Mary-Claire Ward Geoscience Award, which recognizes and supports graduate students whose research helps deepen our understanding of Canada’s geological history.
Presented annually, the $5,000 award and certificate support a full-time graduate student in Canada whose thesis is likely to advance our knowledge through field-based geological mapping.
The award is administered by the Geological Association of Canada (GAC), PDAC, the National Geological Surveys Committee, the Canadian Geological Foundation and Watts, Griffis and McOuat Ltd.

Across different sessions at PDAC 2026, Cate Larsen and Stephen Crozier discussed geoscience and sustainability communication, from the value of data that acknowledges uncertainty to how the industry can better share its story. As part of its ongoing advocacy, PDAC met with MP Claude Guay and MP Viviane Lapointe in Ottawa to share the mineral exploration and development sector’s perspective and advance data-driven recommendations ahead of the Federal Budget.
PDAC is calling for four key measures:
- Expand Canadian Exploration Expense eligibility
- Make the Mineral Exploration Tax Credit and Critical Mineral Exploration Tax Credit permanent
- Commit at least $30 million annually to public geoscience
- Align the Income Tax Act definition of a mineral resource with Canada’s Critical Minerals List

The Canadian Mining Hall of Fame is excited to announce the induction of five new members: Lukas Henrik Lundin, Anthony (Tony) Paul Makuch, Ron Nolan, James (Jim) Redpath, and Neil Woodyer.

This week, PDAC Second Vice President and Health & Safety Committee Chair, Conrad Dix, shared his experiences and PDAC’s perspectives on exploration health and safety at the ISSA Mining Health and Safety Conference in Saskatoon.

A key takeaway from the panel discussion was that adaptability remains central to safe exploration. When conditions or work change, it’s important to re-evaluate whether the measures in place to keep the work safe are still effective.
