On March 2, 2026, PDAC, the World Economic Forum and The Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development co-hosted the eleventh annual International Mines Ministers Summit (IMMS). The Summit brought together 26 government representatives responsible for mining from around the world alongside leaders of industry, financial institutions, and civil society.

This year’s Summit focused on the theme Aligning Priorities: Producer-Consumer Strategies for the Future of Minerals. Discussions focused on the growing urgency of aligning producer and consumer country strategies in the face of rapidly increasing demand for critical minerals driven by the global energy transition and digitalization. While longstanding differences in priorities persist, participants broadly agreed that these are increasingly interdependent and can be addressed through enhanced cooperation, stronger institutions, and innovative policy and financing approaches.

On International Day of Women in Mining, we recognize the contributions of women across the mineral exploration and mining sector while acknowledging that gender diversity remains a challenge for our industry.
Women currently represent approximately 14% of the Canadian mining workforce and continue to be underrepresented in many field and operational roles. In fact, this figure has declined from previous estimates of around 17%, reminding us that progress is not always linear.
Gender bias can affect opportunities both within the workplace and in the communities where exploration takes place: from hiring and advancement decisions to participation in engagement activities and access to economic benefits.

PDAC's Gender Diversity and Inclusion Guide is a tool to help companies identify and address these barriers, supporting more inclusive workplaces, stronger community relationships, and better project outcomes 📍 https://ow.ly/7TOU50ZaHKs
