Last year we had the absolute pleasure of designing in Kitchener.

✨ From unfinished basement → intentional family space ✨

When designing children’s spaces, the goal isn’t just to “fill the room with toys.” It’s to create a calm environment that invites creativity, independence, and connection.

This basement was designed to maximize every inch while still feeling peaceful and cohesive with the rest of the home.

Instead of one overwhelming playroom, we created intentional zones that support different types of play and family time:

• A gross motor zone with climbing and swings for movement and coordination
• A creative studio for art, building, and imagination
• A cozy reading corner to slow down and regulate
• A family lounge space where parents and kids can relax together
• Thoughtful hidden and open storage to keep the space calm and functional

The key to designing spaces like this is balance.
✨ movement and rest
✨ creativity and organization
✨ play and family connection

Every detail was carefully planned so the space could grow with the children while still feeling beautiful for the whole family.

Because when children have environments that support open-ended play, incredible things happen.

From cold concrete to a place where four little imaginations can climb, create, read, build, and be in wonder.

This unfinished basement was transformed into a multi-zoned play + learning space designed around this family’s real needs: movement for self-regulation, cozy corners for quiet moments, accessible storage for independence, and plenty of room for creativity to thrive.

Every detail was thoughtfully shaped around their goals. To create a home where all four kids could learn, grow, and play side-by-side.

Goodbye summer and hello fall! 🍂 I can’t believe it’s already October 1st, time is flying by! This design and build was definitely one of our highlight projects this past summer, and I’m so excited to finally share these beautiful images with you.

I’ve always been a firm believer that outdoor play areas should feel like a true extension of our indoor spaces, and vice versa. ✨ This project is the perfect example of how thoughtful design can seamlessly connect the indoors with the outdoors creating a space that invites curiosity, movement, and imagination no matter the season!

Grateful as always for amazing clients who make it possible to keep designing magical, purposeful spaces for kids to enjoy! ✨

When my clients reached out to me to redesign this room that wasn’t being used to its fullest potential, I immediately knew what I wanted to do with the nook!

It was important for us to create a safe, welcoming, accessible, open-ended playroom for their toddler while also making it comfortable for the entire family to enjoy together.

And when I say I get to work with the BEST families, I truly, truly mean it!

Because when a space is intentionally designed for play, it becomes so much more than just a room. It becomes a foundation for confidence, creativity, WONDER and lifelong learning. That’s the heart of our Educational Design work.

Way back play back (do people even say that anymore?! 🤪) to this dreamy basement playroom we designed and installed two whole years ago!

This family wanted their basement to feel more inviting and calming—a space where their three kids could play, create, and unwind. From the cozy swing chairs to the art display wall, climbing wall, and those cloud lights, every detail was chosen to spark joy and support open-ended play.

Still one of our favourite transformations—because kids’ spaces can be just as beautiful, functional, and serene as any other room in the home.

We layered this space with elements that support creativity, connection, and calm:
✨Cloud pendants for a dreamy glow
✨Display rails for rotating artwork
✨A large communal table for crafts, games, STEM learning, and snacks
✨Soft seating and cozy corners for reading and rest
✨A mini climbing gym and sensory swing to support self-regulation
✨A large floor space for endless open-ended play

This basement was designed to flex with family life, and grow alongside their kids. I am forever grateful for being a part of this beautiful family’s home!

A profound loss felt by so many. The big sister to all of us. To my dearest friend Laura, thank you. From the moment we connected, you believed in me and took a chance on me. You’ve been an incredible friend, confidant, and cheerleader throughout the years. You’ve taught me so much in such a short time: to love fiercely, cherish the little things, never take a moment for granted, how to give yourself and others grace, prioritize what truly matters, take risks, and, above all, to live life to its fullest. I have always admired your dedication to your family, your commitment to your community and business, and your ability to connect with so many people around you. You have been a pillar of strength and a true inspiration. My heart is shattered knowing you’re no longer with us on this earth. Your friendship was truly a gift and your love will forever remain in my heart! I miss your smile, our laughs, our random chats and our friendship already. Love you forever Laura 💛

My deepest condolences to the entire GG family. There are no words to this immense loss. Love you all!
