Managing people is not about getting them to do what you want. Managing people is about helping them win which helps the team.

I just finished reading "Do You Feel Like I Do?" The quote below is about music, but it can also be applied to business. Excellent read especially for those of us in the business world. His story is the definition of resilience. .

"People who have longevity in music are usually the ones who never think they're that special, so they keep on pushing the envelope, listening, learning more."

- Peter Frampton

Business isn't always easy and it is not for the faint of heart. But, for those of us who choose this path, there is nothing else we would rather do.

"YOUR MEN LOVE YOU. IF I KNEW NOTHING ELSE ABOUT YOU, THAT WOULD BE ENOUGH".

Leadership has nothing to do with position or authority. True leadership is the ability to unite or inspire people. Believe it or not, true leadership begins with love. Your team will follow you through almost any adversity if you are a leader they can trust with their emotions, fears, hopes and dreams. In all things... LEAD WITH LOVE!

As we have heard many times before, thoughts are things.

Small businesses are actually proof of this statement. A seed of thought is planted in an entrepreneur's mind, it is watered and nurtured with possibility and before you know it, it has germinated, taken root and a new business sprouts.

As I watched this young lady share her 1 year journey to learn how to skateboard, I saw many parallels to what it takes to start a business. Particularly your first one. I was inspired by what she was willing to do to achieve her goal.

It reminded me of when I started my first business and the time, effort, small victories and yes some pain it took to get off the ground. If you are tempted to skip to the end to see how good she is, I encourage you not to do that... watch and enjoy the PROCESS and PROGRESS.

If you are experiencing challenges right now as many are, recognize that although there may be an end goal in sight, you are in the middle of "process". Watch her progress and be encouraged. I can tell you from experience that our victories are so much sweeter and we are stronger for having gone through our process. Here are some parallels I see:

1. Passion and Commitment - this video chronicles a full year! You have
to have passion and commitment to stick to your dream
2. In the beginning, there are challenges and obstacles that you must
overcome, and to be honest, sometime we simply aren't that good
because we are learning something new.
3. Perseverance! How easy it would have been for her to give up when
she didn't seem to be as good as her peers. She didn't, she kept on
going - that is the spirit of the entrepreneur.
4. Celebrate your victories! Even a small victory is cause for celebration
because it shows you that improvement is happening.
5. Once you develop a competency, continue to practice and don't be
afraid to try something new. Add a new discipline to your repertoire.
6. There will be some cuts and bruises along the way (did you notice her
wrapped hand?)
7. Continual practice and repetition creates mastery.
8. Stick with it. Never give up on your dream.

Share any other insights you may have after watching this video. Inspiration and beauty is all around is if we will but seek it.
