As I watched this young lady share her 1 year journey to learn how to skateboard, I saw many parallels to what it takes to start a business. Particularly your first one. I was inspired by what she was willing to do to achieve her goal.
It reminded me of when I started my first business and the time, effort, small victories and yes some pain it took to get off the ground. If you are tempted to skip to the end to see how good she is, I encourage you not to do that... watch and enjoy the PROCESS and PROGRESS.
If you are experiencing challenges right now as many are, recognize that although there may be an end goal in sight, you are in the middle of "process". Watch her progress and be encouraged. I can tell you from experience that our victories are so much sweeter and we are stronger for having gone through our process. Here are some parallels I see:
1. Passion and Commitment - this video chronicles a full year! You have
to have passion and commitment to stick to your dream
2. In the beginning, there are challenges and obstacles that you must
overcome, and to be honest, sometime we simply aren't that good
because we are learning something new.
3. Perseverance! How easy it would have been for her to give up when
she didn't seem to be as good as her peers. She didn't, she kept on
going - that is the spirit of the entrepreneur.
4. Celebrate your victories! Even a small victory is cause for celebration
because it shows you that improvement is happening.
5. Once you develop a competency, continue to practice and don't be
afraid to try something new. Add a new discipline to your repertoire.
6. There will be some cuts and bruises along the way (did you notice her
wrapped hand?)
7. Continual practice and repetition creates mastery.
8. Stick with it. Never give up on your dream.
Share any other insights you may have after watching this video. Inspiration and beauty is all around is if we will but seek it.
