The CAD/USD is opening at 1.3874 (0.7207).

Gold and silver remain under pressure as global bond yields climb to their highest levels in almost two decades. Rising oil and food prices are fueling inflation concerns and expectations that central banks may raise interest rates, increasing the cost of holding non-interest-bearing assets. Gold has retraced only 38.2% of its August rally, with support at USD 4,200–4,240.

US-Iran hostilities have resumed, adding to oil supply concerns, while crude continues to transit the Strait of Hormuz. German inflation rose to 2.9% in August, while the US 10-year yield moved above 4.75% for the first time in 19 months. Markets now turn to US ISM manufacturing, JOLTS job openings and construction spending today, ahead of August payrolls on Friday. Stocks remain under pressure as higher oil prices and rising bond yields weigh on global markets.

The CAD/USD is opening at 1.3887 (0.7201).

Escalating US-Iran tensions are pushing crude oil prices higher, supporting the commodity-linked CAD. US strikes on Iranian rocket launchers on Larak Island near the Strait of Hormuz were followed by Iranian ballistic missile attacks on two US bases in Jordan, renewing concerns over energy supply risks.

Meanwhile, Fed Chair Kevin Warsh delivered a hawkish message at Jackson Hole, warning that rates may need to rise if inflation does not ease further. Higher energy prices add to inflation concerns and have strengthened expectations for a possible Fed rate hike in September, supporting the USD.

The deepening US-Canada trade dispute could also limit CAD gains. Markets now look ahead to Wednesday’s Bank of Canada rate decision and Friday’s US and Canadian jobs reports for the next direction in USD/CAD.

The CAD/USD is opening at 1.3852 (0.7219).

USD/CAD is holding near 1.3850 as investors avoid large positions ahead of Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s highly anticipated Jackson Hole speech. Markets are watching for signals on the US monetary policy outlook and whether persistent inflation could support further tightening. The US Dollar Index remains firm above 99.00, while renewed US-Canada trade tensions could limit CAD gains.

Canadian Q2 GDP data is also due today, with growth expected at 3.4% YoY after a 0.1% contraction in Q1. A significant surprise could provide a fresh catalyst for USD/CAD. Elsewhere, Tokyo core CPI rose 1.8% YoY, while the Bank of Korea raised rates by 25 bps to 3.00%. US tech shares advanced, Bitcoin holds near 80K, crude oil firms, and gold remains below $4,600 ahead of Warsh’s speech.

The CAD/USD is opening at 1.3866 (0.7212).

Oil prices fell as Iran and Oman discussed a temporary maritime corridor through the Strait of Hormuz, while reports suggested the US and Iran may be nearing a ceasefire deal. Hopes for freer navigation and milder-than-expected US measures on Iran eased supply concerns and weighed on crude.

The CAD remains on the weaker side of its recent range as US-Canada trade tensions intensify. Canada imposed 15%-50% tariffs on about USD 20 billion of US imports, while Washington is reportedly considering additional penalties.

USD/CAD remains below the 20-day EMA at 1.3909 and the 50% Fibonacci level at 1.3901, keeping the near-term bias bearish. Support sits at 1.3819, followed by 1.3703. US consumer expectations fell to their lowest since January, while July new home sales missed forecasts. Australia’s CPI came in stronger than expected.
