Join us on Roncesvalles for the 6th annual Orange Shirt Day walk, organized by the Friends of the Dundas Roncesvalles Peace Garden, in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30th.
Beginning with a gathering at 3:30pm at the Dundas Roncesvalles Peace Garden, located at 2201 Dundas Street West; Danielle Migwans, Knowledge Keeper and Community Advocate from M’Chigeeng First Nation, hand drums and teaches attendees an Indigenous song for the Walk.
At 4:00pm, Robin Makri (Jacko), member of Wilkwemkoong First Nation, founder of Mashkawizii Medicinals, shares teachings on Indigenous healing plants as reclaiming culture.
At 4:20, we begin our walk down Roncesvalles Ave to ‘The 8th Fire’ mural, a 110' mural commissioned in 2018 by the Roncesvalles Village BIA with support from stART Toronto by Philip Cote and Jim Bravo Thiery. This vibrant and knowledge-rich mural is located at Roncesvalles and Garden Ave. Culminating in refreshments, music, and demonstration of the additional of a new pollinator garden, as part of the PollinateTO program, which joins the RVBIA garden bed pollinator corridor along Roncy.
