One of the most powerful things a leader can do is ask open-ended questions.

The purpose of these questions is not to interrogate others or fix their problems!

Rather, open-ended questions are a great way to really understand another person’s perspective.

I often see my clients making assumptions about why a colleague is underperforming, disengaged, or struggling… without ever really asking!

But curiosity changes everything.

When you slow down, stay open and truly listen, you often uncover things you never would have expected.

In this week’s Leadership in Focus blog, I shared a story about a leader who chose curiosity over judgment with an underperforming team member… and what happened next brought an entire class of leaders to tears!

Do you consider yourself to be a curious person?

In my opinion, the leadership competency of curiosity is often overlooked.

Yet when I see leaders tap into their curiosity, the magic starts to happen.

That is when innovation expands, trust deepens, conflict is dealt with effectively and their team members take on more accountability.

In my blog this week, I will share a real client story.

I will share how my client moved from judgment to curiosity, and truly, a remarkable thing happened…

You’ll also learn 3 practical ways to be a more curious leader.

Have you been to Sedona?
If so, what was your experience like?

I just got back from a women’s retreat there, which was incredible. I learned so much about myself.

Since I heard that Sedona was a magical place, I decided to keep a running list of every unexpected, surprising or hard-to-explain moment that took place.

By the end, I had quite the list!

But two experiences stood out and shifted how I think about what's possible for leadership and life!

I’m sharing everything in my Leadership in Focus blog this week, including how I bent these two spoons!

I bent a spoon in Sedona.

Not once but twice.

Let me explain!
I was in Sedona at a retreat.

One of the facilitators did an amazing activity with us. She taught us how to bend spoons!

It was a process. First, she spent some time walking us through a breathing exercise, we then visualized bending the spoon and then set the intention to do so.

At the end of the process, my spoon softened in my hands (like a piece of licorice), and I was able to bend it with no effort.

I still can't fully explain it. It was amazing!

But what I learned from that experience changed how I think about focus, mindset and what's possible.

I'm sharing my full insights in this Friday's Leadership in Focus newsletter, including the two lessons I'm bringing back into my leadership and my life.

I have a powerful statistic to share with you!

According to Gallup's 2026 State of the Global Workplace report, employees in low-trust companies are nearly 60% more likely to experience high stress!

Low trust equals more stress!

That is the bottom line.

So, what does that mean for you as a leader?

Well, the way you show up every day directly affects how stressed, focused and productive your team will be.

Most leaders think that they can build trust from big speeches or team off-sites.

That is not true!

Trust comes from the small, consistent moments that you share with your team, like:

- Showing up on time
- Keeping your commitments
- Having the hard conversation instead of avoiding it

In this week's blog, I share the 5 specific, practical behaviours that you can use to build high-trust with your team over time.

Trust is the foundation of every high-performing team.

Sadly, I see low trust in many teams.

Working on a low-trust team is not pleasant! I'm sure you'll agree!

So, I want to share with you a very inspiring story.

It is the journey of how my client went from low scores on an employee opinion survey to building a high-trust culture.

Instead of brushing off his poor results, he leveraged a process that took real courage.

His behaviour inspired me to write about how you can build a high-trust team.

Check out this Friday's Leadership in Focus blog to learn why trust matters and some practical strategies that you can leverage with our team.

I heard something at a leadership conference a few weeks ago that I haven't stopped thinking about.

The keynote was delivered by Dr. Dana Sinclair, a performance psychologist who works with elite athletes in the NBA, NFL and MLB.

What she said about how top performers handle pressure really resonated with me.

She said that high performers don't wait for confidence; they focus on ex*****on.

In this week's blog, I’m breaking down what separates the leaders who thrive under pressure from the ones who freeze, and I’m sharing 3 practical strategies in there that you can start using right away.

Last week, I bumped into one of my mentors on the subway. It was such a wonderful experience and he reminded me of the importance of great leadership and the concept of Level 5 leadership.

Have you heard of this term? It is from Jim Collin's book Good to Great. According to Collins, Level 5 leaders are the highest level of leadership capability where personal humility and ambition coexist.

In my blog this week, I’ll tell you more about this amazing leader and how you, too, can move towards Level 5 leadership.

Have you ever thought: “I could get this done… if everyone else would just do their part?”

If so, you are not alone.

One of the most common frustrations I hear from people right now is, "I can't get my colleagues to follow through."

It makes sense. Everyone is busy, and everyone has competing priorities. As one of my clients said to me recently, "Your urgency is not my urgency."

So, how do you actually move work forward when you don't have direct authority over the people you need?

The answer is influence!

In this week's blog, I introduce what I call The Influence Triangle, including three areas that will help you build credibility, understand what truly matters to the people around you and communicate in a way that actually gets people to listen and take action.

It's also the foundation of my brand new course, Getting Results Without Authority, designed specifically for leaders, team leads and project managers who need to get things done through people they don't manage.

Read the full blog, and reach out if you'd like to learn more about the course.

Does this sound familiar?

You're waiting for someone to send you information.
You're following up on a decision that should have been made two weeks ago.
You're trying to move a project forward, but keep hitting a wall.

I'm hearing many people complain about these issues at work.

The reality is that you don't work in a vacuum.

You need help and collaboration from others to get your job done successfully.

So, how do you get results from others...especially when they don't report to you?

I am dedicating this week’s blog post to sharing my influence framework that you can use to get results through others with ease.
