What is a Plugin and why are they significant?

It is not an over statement to say that Plugins are what makes WordPress a step above all the other blogging software. Plugins can transform your simple blog into virtually any kind of website you can imagine. They can add functionality to your site, and they do this without you needing any programming skills whatsoever. Put simply a Plugin is an additional program which allows WordPress to manage content in different ways. However, this description does not convey anywhere near the power that Plugins offer. The opportunities that Plugins open up are immense. Plugins provide web masters with a simple method to make small changes to their website or to change its entire functionality. By installing Plugins on your WordPress website you can change what was once a simple blog into an online store with full e-commerce functionality. On the other hand, you can change the site to a niche user forum and attract hundreds of members. You may want to create a social-networking site. All this is possible using plugins and you won’t even have to write a single line of code. Not having to understand anything about the core code of the website has made building websites relatively simple even for non programmers. A good way to conceptualize Plugins is that they are like tools in a toolbox. You simply select the one that you need to do the job that is required. For example, you want to create a contact form. All you need to do is find a contact form Plugin, install it, activate the Plugin and you are ready to go. Or perhaps you would like to make money from your website. To accomplish this all you need is an Adsense Plugin. Again install the Plugin and activate the Plugin and it will add Adsense advertising blocks onto your website. Plugins can improve the performance of your website so that it loads faster. You can install spam filter Plugins so that your site no longer receives spam comments. Whatever function you can imagine for your WordPress site someone has probably already built a Plugin for it. And the great thing is not only are they easy to use the vast majority are free!

When performing Search Engine Optimization (SEO) it’s always a good idea to do your keyword research at the beginning of a project. This might sound commonsensical but there are many eager Entrepreneurs and Solopreneurs out there who skip this step or do not invest the time to learn and apply proper SEO. Launching a website as hastily as possible thinking that you should just get down to business might prove to be somewhat counter-productive. It’s like making the most beautiful store in the world but not taking the necessary steps to letting people know about it. Opening day would be doomed to fail. Your keyword choice is the most important part of your SEO campaign and the keywords you choose through research will be the focus of your entire optimization process. Using the free versions of Google AdWords, Keyword Discovery or WordTracker will suffice when you are on a tight budget. Although the numbers the free versions of these programs (as opposed to the pro versions) are not precise, it’s enough to give you an indication of a keyword search and its popularity. SEO should be an integral part of your on-line business marketing plan. When done strategically and consistently it could mean great results for your page ranking. Keep in mind, there’s nothing wrong with taking the ‘do-it-yourself route’, a long as you are willing to be a student of intent and take all appropriate steps and use the available tools to ensure a well-optimized site worthy of a higher ranking.
