"Should I incorporate?"

For a lot of early-stage owners, the honest answer is not yet.

Incorporating makes sense when the business earns more than you need to live on and you can leave money inside, when liability exposure is real, when you're bringing in partners, or when you're building something you plan to sell.

It doesn't make sense because a friend did it, or because it sounds more serious.

A corporation that files a return every year for a business that doesn't need one is a recurring cost with no return.

The question behind it is usually "how do I pay myself?" and the answer changes depending on which side of that line you're on. Both are on the agenda Thursday at the YEDI webinar. Noon, virtual, free. Link in comments.

Sometimes the fastest way to move things forward for a client is to sit down together.

Great catching up with insurance consultant Pasternak to talk through how we can better support our mutual clients. When tax, business and insurance decisions overlap, one conversation can do more than a long email chain.

At Novack CPA, we value working closely with our clients’ advisors. It helps us ask better questions, coordinate our advice and keep everyone moving in the same direction.

I'm pleased to share that I've completed my exit from a dental lab business formed through an acquisition I originated in 2024.

Being an owner in a dental laboratory gave me a view of dentistry that few accountants ever get: what it takes to run a lab, and the dentist relationship from the other side of the case. That experience directly shapes how we advise dentists and dental businesses at Novack CPA.

I remain focused on growing Novack CPA, and on selectively investing in businesses where my financial and operating experience can add value.

Looking forward to connecting with dentists, founders, business owners and fellow investors.

Q4 starts today.

90 days left in 2026. Here's the honest breakdown of what's still adjustable:

Still open: compensation mix, purchase timing, bonus decisions, dividend declarations, family compensation documentation.

Getting tight: structure changes, new agreements, anything requiring legal coordination.

Closed: everything, by the time you're filing in 2027.

Optimizing your year and documenting your year are different outcomes. The next 60 days decide which one you get.

09/30/2026

What actually happens in a Q4 planning conversation:

Not a sales pitch. Not a review of last year's return.

A working session on this year's remaining decisions:
1. Income check: where you'll land for 2026, and what that means for the salary/dividend mix
2. Timing: what should happen in November/December vs. what should wait for January
3. Structure: whether anything about your situation has changed enough to matter
4. Next year: what to set up now so 2027 starts right instead of getting fixed later

Sixty minutes in October. It changes what March looks like.

09/27/2026

October starts this week.

For incorporated professionals and owner-managers across the GTA, the window for 2026 planning decisions is closing:

*Compensation adjustments need runway to implement.
*Structure changes need time to document properly.
*Purchase and timing decisions need to happen before December.

If you've been meaning to have this conversation, with your current CPA or a new one, this is the month.

DM me "Q4" and I'll send the booking link. Or it's in the comments below.

For most healthcare professionals, the 2026 tax outcome is decided in the next 60 days. Not in March.

That's why we run Q4 planning reviews in October, not December. What we cover:

- Whether your current salary/dividend mix still fits your situation
- Whether your professional corporation structure matches where your practice is heading
- Associate and partnership considerations before year-end
- Timing decisions: purchases, bonuses, income allocation

This is the work that has to happen before December to matter for 2026.

If you're a dentist or physician in the GTA and this conversation hasn't happened yet this year, DM me "Q4" and I'll send over the booking link.

The clients who get the best outcomes aren't the ones with the most complex situations.

They're the ones who engage early.

They ask questions in September, not March.
They flag changes when they're considering them, not after they've happened.
They treat their CPA as part of the decision, not the cleanup.

The work is the same either way. The outcomes aren't even close.

Planning is a two way relationship. Treat it that way and you get more out of it, every single year.

09/17/2026

"We'll deal with it at year-end" is the most expensive sentence in your business.

Here's what it actually costs:

Compensation optimization deferred = a full year at the wrong salary/dividend mix.

Structure review deferred = another year of a setup that fit your 2020 income, not your 2026 income.

Associate agreement deferred = terms negotiated after patterns are established, from a weaker position.

Purchase timing deferred = deductions landing in the wrong year.

None of these show up as an invoice. That's what makes them easy to ignore.

Deferral has a price. It's just invisible.
