Summer is here, and yes, you can absolutely embrace warm-weather dressing at work without crossing the line into "office siren" territory.

The key? Think breezy, not bare.

Swap heavy blazers for linen or cotton tailored jackets. Choose midi lengths over minis. Opt for structured sleeveless tops rather than spaghetti straps. Keep your colour palette light and fresh, but your silhouette polished.

Looking and feeling your best at work doesn't mean sacrificing comfort for the summer months -- it means dressing with intention.

DO: This look nails summer workplace dressing. A pleated midi skirt in a neutral tone keeps things elegant and cool, the sleeveless vest adds structure without the heat of a full blazer, and the block heels and leather tote pull it together professionally. You look put-together, you feel comfortable, and you're ready for anything the workday throws at you.

DON'T: This is the "office siren" trend in action -- and while it might work for a night out, it doesn't belong in the workplace. A bodycon mini dress with spaghetti straps and stiletto sandals shifts the focus away from your competence and onto your appearance. Your image should work for you, not against you.

I have been following Punch (actually, I can’t get enough of him), a young macaque in a zoo in Japan, and his story has stayed with me.

Punch was rejected by his mother at birth and later struggled to be accepted by the other monkeys. Thankfully, two devoted zookeepers stepped in to feed him, comfort him, and help him feel safe.

What is so touching about Punch is not just what happened to him; it is how he kept going.

He was gentle.
He kept trying.
He wanted to belong.
He accepted love when it was offered.
And little by little, he began to find his place.

I think that is why so many people have responded to him. We all, in some way, understand what it feels like to want acceptance.

Punch is a beautiful reminder to be kinder, more patient, and more aware of those who may feel left out.

If this little monkey is teaching us something, perhaps it is this: make room for others. Include them. Be gentle. We never know how much our kindness may matter.

Good Manners Are Timeless

I recently had the pleasure of teaching my Manners Matter course for children ages 8–14.

We covered common courtesies, proper handshakes, introductions, setting a table, dining skills, and the value of thank-you cards.

And while the course was created for children and tweens, the truth is — these reminders are just as important for adults. Good manners never go out of style.

A few simple courtesies make such a difference:

• Standing when you shake someone’s hand

• Responding to invitations and RSVPs promptly

• Acknowledging emails and messages in a timely way

• Saying thank you — and meaning it

Whether we are at work, at dinner, at an event, or meeting someone for the first time, we are always making an impression.

Manners matter — at every age.

Spring

Warm, light, and fresh. Golden tones, peachy skin, and clear bright eyes — Spring colouring glows with warmth and softness. Think sunshine, honey, and fresh blossoms.

I’m so pleased to share that for the past two years, I have been hired to offer my Colour Activation experience at Shoptalk. This exciting event brings together retailers, brands, and technology leaders, and I love being able to add a personal and practical element to the experience.

My Colour Activation is fast-paced, informative, and fun. Each attendee receives a brief introduction to Colour Analysis, a one-on-one consultation to determine their best seasonal palette, and a custom colour card they can use as a guide when shopping and building their wardrobe.

What I love most is seeing how eager people are to have their colours done. They leave with more confidence, a clearer understanding of what suits them, and practical information they can continue to use long after the show is over.

It is always a pleasure to bring this kind of experience to events, conferences, and organizations looking to offer something a little different — and genuinely useful.

Conference and corporate event inquiries are always welcome.

We work hard for our clothing and often spend a great deal on it, so it’s worth knowing how to care for it properly.

One of the most common mistakes I see is over-drying and over-dry-cleaning clothing.

Everyday pieces like activewear and tops may need frequent laundering, but suits and jackets are another story. Because they are more tailored and often include lining, buttons, and finer fabrics, they need more thoughtful care.

Too much heat from the dryer can wear down fabric, affect the fit, and shorten the life of a garment. A better approach is to use the dryer briefly, then hang the item to finish drying. A steamer or iron can also help freshen clothes beautifully.

As for suits and jackets, they usually do not need frequent dry cleaning, especially when a blouse or shirt is worn underneath. Often, spot cleaning and one good cleaning at the end of the season is enough.

Your clothing is part of the image you present to the world. Treat it well, and it will serve you well.

Many people assume that black and white always looks chic on everyone — but that’s not necessarily true.

In fact, black and pure white can be one of the hardest combinations to wear well if your complexion does not harmonize with these colours. Why?

• Black is the darkest colour and can appear harsh or intimidating on some people
• Pure white is very bright and can look too stark unless your colouring supports strong contrast
Because these are two extremes, this combination works best on someone with a naturally contrasting complexion ( Winter).

If you are not a Winter, try softer alternatives such as:
• Navy and ivory
• Brown and ivory

These combinations are often much more flattering and balanced.

✨ Tip for polished professionalism: Your makeup isn’t just makeup — it’s non-verbal communication.

Studies show that moderate makeup can influence first impressions in a positive way, helping others perceive you as competent, professional, and trustworthy.

My definition of moderate & workplace-appropriate:

✔ foundation/complexion evening
✔ daytime lip colour
✔ brow definer if needed
✔ subtle eye definition

💡 It’s not about “looking prettier” — it’s about helping your face read clearly in professional settings, especially online or in photos.

In my Colour Analysis sessions, I often cover colour-treated hair first — not to criticize anyone’s choices, but to remove visual distraction so we can accurately see your undertone and best colours.

One common belief I hear is: “Blonde makes me look younger.”

Often it softens contrast too much and can leave the face looking washed out.

Here’s my practical advice if you love colouring your hair:

Stay close to your natural base shade
Then add highlights that are warm or cool (based on your colouring)
Keep harmony between your hair, skin, and eye colour

You can absolutely colour your hair — it’s your decision.Just know that when your hair colour is in harmony with your natural colouring, and you wear your optimal palette, your appearance looks balanced, polished, and vibrant from head to toe.

If you’re unsure whether your best tones are warm or cool, a professional Colour Analysis can make that crystal clear.
