Stretching out the riding season in the Kootenays? 🏍️🌲 Whether you're carving the Salmo-Creston Skyway or cruising into Rossland for coffee, basic ICBC Autoplan rarely covers what most riders assume it does.

Three gaps worth knowing:

🛡️ Basic Autoplan excludes Collision and Comprehensive. Theft, vandalism, single-vehicle crashes, fire, and weather damage—none of it is in your mandatory coverage.

💸 $200K liability is the minimum—and often not enough. A serious injury claim can blow past that fast. Extended liability (up to $5M) is worth a look.

🛠️ Gear isn't automatic. Helmet, riding gear, and accessories usually need to be specifically covered.

And when riding season wraps? Make sure your storage policy is in place before the bike sits idle.

📞 Riding in the Kootenays? Stop by our Bay Ave office before you put more miles on this season.

Made the switch to electric? ⚡🚗 EVs are quickly becoming the standard on BC roads, but insuring one isn't quite the same as insuring a traditional gas vehicle. In 2026, EVs in Canada can cost 20–35% more to insure—and there's a reason why.

What makes EV insurance different:

🔋 Battery Value: The battery alone can account for 40% of your EV's total value—even minor damage can result in a "total loss" claim.
🛠️ Specialized Repairs: EVs require certified technicians and high-voltage equipment, which means higher labour rates.
📡 Sensor-Heavy Tech: A small fender bender can damage LiDAR, cameras, and sensors, with costs adding up fast.
💰 Rebates & Replacement Value: Federal EVAP rebates (up to $5,000) lower your purchase price, but your replacement cost may still reflect MSRP—an important detail to discuss with your broker.

Want to keep premiums in check? Try a higher deductible and bundle your auto with your home or tenant insurance for multi-line discounts.

🔌 Pro tip: Before you sign at the dealership, call us with the VIN. We can give you an exact quote so there's no sticker shock when it's time to plate your new EV.

📞 Our Trail brokers know the local roads, from Coquihalla winter treks to the winding routes around the Kootenays. Stop by or give us a call to chat about EV coverage.

Spring thaw is here, and so is pothole season. 🚗💥 Freeze-thaw cycles wreak havoc on BC roads, and one hard hit can mean blown tires, bent rims, or expensive suspension repairs. Before pothole season catches you off guard, here's what every BC driver should know.

Is pothole damage actually covered?

🛞 Collision Coverage: Pothole damage usually falls under collision—it's treated like a single-vehicle accident.

🌧️ Comprehensive Coverage: Typically does NOT cover potholes (that's for hail, theft, or vandalism).

📋 ICBC Basic Autoplan: Basic ICBC does not include collision; it's an optional add-on you'll need to purchase.

💵 Deductible Check: If repair costs are close to or below your deductible, filing a claim may not be worth it.

📈 Premium Impact: Pothole claims are considered "liable" through ICBC, which can raise your Claims Rated Scale (CRS) and future premiums—unless you've had no liable claims in the past 10 years, in which case it may be forgiven.

A few quick ways to protect your vehicle: keep your tires properly inflated, leave space between you and the car ahead so you can spot trouble early, and slow down on rough roads—especially after rain when potholes hide under puddles.

🚨 Hit one anyway? Pull over safely and check for visible tire or rim damage. Watch for vibrations or steering pull in the days that follow—damage isn't always immediate.

📞 Not sure if your policy includes collision coverage? Stop by or give our Trail brokers a call—we'll review your auto policy and make sure you're covered for whatever BC roads throw at you.

Planning to hit the open road this season? 🚐🌲 No matter where your travel plans take you, your motorhome, travel trailer, or fifth wheel needs more than basic ICBC coverage to be fully protected.

Here's what RV owners often overlook:

🔧 Standard Equipment & Contents: Built-in appliances, dishes, linens, and cookware aren't covered under a standard auto policy—you'll need a dedicated RV policy.

🏆 Replacement Cost Tiers: Coverage ranges from Actual Cash Value (depreciated payout) to Replacement Cost (comparable used unit, no depreciation) to Guaranteed Replacement Cost (a brand-new comparable unit for total losses on units 10 years or newer).

🏕️ Campsite & Vacation Liability: Provides liability coverage when you're parked and using your motorhome as a residence.

🛠️ Emergency Expenses: Covers lodging or travel home if your rig is damaged or destroyed by a covered loss more than 50 miles from home.

📞 Stop by or give us a call to make sure your rig is properly covered before your next adventure.

The spring thaw is a welcome sign of warmer weather, but it can also be a "perfect storm" for basement flooding. Protect your home and your keepsakes with these essential prevention tips:

🛠 Check your foundation: Inspect for cracks inside and out. Use masonry filler for small cracks or consult a pro for larger ones.
💧 Direct your downspouts: Ensure gutters are clear of debris and downspouts direct water at least three feet away from your foundation.
🪟 Inspect window wells: Consider acrylic covers to keep out melt-water and debris.
🌀 Test your sump pump: Keep it free of dirt and ensure it’s positioned at the lowest part of your basement.
🚽 Sewer/Septic maintenance: Now is a great time to have your septic field checked or pumped.

📞If you do spot seepage, act fast: remove the water immediately, dry the area thoroughly to prevent mold, and contact your Working Ventures Insurance broker to discuss a potential claim.
