Let’s face it, this industry has been built around brands and their protocols.

Protocols have their place, they teach consistency and product application, but they are not a substitute for understanding skin, which is what Corneotherspy does so well.

When your decisions are driven by epidermal science rather than a prescribed routine, you begin to see each skin for what it is…unique.

You stop asking, “What’s the next step in the protocol?”

You start asking, “What does this skin need today?”

That shift changes the way you work and the way you think.

It develops critical thinking instead of dependency.

It builds confidence instead of compliance.

It creates practitioners who can question, adapt and justify every clinical decision they make.

The professionals who stand out are rarely those who follow the crowd.

My motto, be the black sheep. Be different.

Lead with knowledge, not brand protocols.

Do you think our industry is creating independent thinkers or brand followers?

GLASS SKIN IS NOT HEALTHY SKIN!

Glass skin originated in Korea, encouraging the adoption of multiple skincare steps (sometimes 12 or more) to create smooth, clear, translucent skin.

Whilst it could be considered a great marketing coup, as people lined up to buy an abundance of products, the practice could never be corneotherapuetic for many reasons, but primarily because it unnecessarily overworks the skin.

The skin may look and feel great initially, but not for long! As I’m sure all those influencers have since discovered.

Yet sadly that’s not the worst of it…

Glass skin has now been taken to a whole ‘other’ level and when corneotherapist’s see it, a little piece of us dies inside, because we know the truth.

There are Skin Therapists who are unashamedly using ablative and aggressive in-clinic treatments in combination to create so called glowing, smooth and healthy skin and to further enhance the fallacy, they slather on oil and shine a mag lamp over the top.

It’s all smoke and mirrors, and it’s just horrendous for the skin.

That bright red, glowing skin is not healthy skin it’s inflammation.

That shiny, smooth skin is not healthy skin either it’s an epidermis in crisis. Its natural defences wiped out in the name of vanity.

Believe me skin health is not achieved by forcing the skin into submission. It is achieved by understanding why the skin is misbehaving in the first place.

Corneotherapists care about skin and supporting its natural function is our priority.

So what are your thoughts on glass skin?

You can invest in every new technology and skincare brand on the market, but without knowledge, it means nothing.

Knowledge is your greatest power. It gives you confidence, authority and the ability to think critically about the skin in front of you.

When you invest in understanding why the skin behaves as it does, you elevate not just your results, but the standards of our entire industry.

Our industry is obsessed with exfoliation, encouraging therapists to promote it at every opportunity to accelerate cell turnover.

From chemical peels to microdermabrasion to dermaplaning and the incessant use of AHAs, BHAs and scrubs. Mechanical or physical, you just can’t seem to escape it.

But does the skin really need this level of constant exfoliation? In truth, no!

In fact, it can do more harm than good, compromising the skin’s barrier and ultimately damaging your clients’ skin health.

There really is a better way, and that’s Corneotherapy.

Corneotherapy offers a progressive, restorative approach that nurtures a healthy keratinocyte life cycle. By supporting the natural functions of the epidermis, it allows the skin to desquamate itself without the need for constant intervention.

This is what true skin therapy should look like. Who agrees?

I spent years treating symptoms before I understood the skin well enough to consider causes.

If you’re a beauty or skin therapist who’s ever felt like you’re guessing, or relying on brand protocols, rather than fully understanding what the skin in front of you needs to function optimally, then this is worth a few minutes of your time.

Swipe through to see why so many practitioners are making the switch and if you head to my website you’ll find a free download to get you started.

Well it isn’t the products they use (although great Corneotherapeutic skincare helps).
It isn’t the treatment menu (although barrier friendly modalities also help).
It certainly isn’t how aggressively they can make skin peel (thank goodness).

It’s how they think!

A corneotherapist sees skin as a living, adapting organ, not a surface to be fixed. Every recommendation is born from biology, not what’s trending this month.

They don’t ask what they can do to the skin, they ask what does the skin needs to restore function.

Dehydration isn’t a diagnosis, it’s a signal. So is congestion. So is reactivity. A corneotherapist looks past the symptom to find out why the skin is behaving that way, and works from there.

That often means slowing things down when everyone else wants to speed up, because they understand disrupting a compromised barrier, even with actives marketed as the answer, usually just creates more work down the line.

Barrier function comes first. Inflammation gets respected, not suppressed. The skin’s own repair mechanisms are the starting point, not something to try and quash.

None of this is about building dependent skin, but it is about skin that can hold its own, that adapts and repairs and finds its way back to balance without needing constant intervention.

Understand skin function and you stop treating conditions, you start supporting skin health.

A shout out to Corneotherapists around the globe. Tag yourself or one you respect and let’s celebrate them.

The term corneotherapy is being used more and more in our industry. On the one hand this is fantastic news, as the term is obviously gaining recognition. But on the other, it raises concerns.

Why?

Corneotherapy isn’t a trend to jump on. It’s not a marketing term to make treatments sound more appealing. It’s in-fact a skin science that commands understanding and respect.

If you’re going to use the word corneotherapy in your clinic or your marketing, please fully educate yourself first. Learn the principles, understand the practices and apply them with integrity. Otherwise, what you’re offering is not true corneotherapy, it’s a dilution!

Too often the epidermis is spoken about as though it’s just a protective layer that sits there while we decide what to do to it.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

The epidermis is constantly grafting.

It isn’t waiting for us to fix it.

As skin professionals, our role isn’t to overpower. Instead, we need to understand the biology well enough to know when to intervene, when to support and when to leave well alone.

When we stop seeing the epidermis as passive tissue, we can focus on better questions, such as…

Is what I’m doing helping the skin in front of me to function better?

Skin deserves better questions from skin professionals.
