🚒🔥 NEW APPARATUS, NEW OPPORTUNITIES, AND HANDS-ON TRAINING! 🔥🚒

Last evening, our STS team headed to the Wallace Volunteer Fire Department to work alongside their Engineer Team on their new-to-them Aerial Apparatus! 🚒💪

We kicked things off with a great discussion about their training needs, expectations, and what they want to accomplish with this exciting addition to their fleet.

Then it was time to get down to business! 🔥

With the apparatus set up, we put each operator through hands-on operational drills, building familiarity and confidence with the controls, movements, and capabilities. Along the way, we explored different operating options, techniques, and real-world applications with the entire group.

🔥🚒 STOP #3 — RIGHT HERE AT HOME IN COLCHESTER COUNTY! 🚒🔥

While our teams were busy in Cumberland County and Cape Breton, Team #3 stayed a little closer to home, working with the Colchester Fire Fighters Association Level I Class as they tackled one of the biggest milestones in their training — Fire Suppression Weekend!

This weekend was all about taking the knowledge and skills developed throughout the Level I program and bringing them together in realistic fireground evolutions.

Students were evaluated on their ability to work safely and effectively as part of a crew while applying skills involving PPE, SCBA, hose handling and advancement, fire attack, communications, teamwork, situational awareness, and fireground safety.

Fire Suppression Weekend is where a lot of pieces start coming together. It challenges students to work under pressure, communicate with their team, follow direction, manage their air, and put their training into action.

It was great watching the confidence build as the weekend progressed. Every evolution is another opportunity to learn, improve, and become more comfortable operating in demanding fireground conditions.

A big congratulations to the Colchester Fire Fighters Association Level I Class for the work they put in this weekend! 👏🔥

And with that, our three-team weekend is officially in the books!

🚒💦 STOP #2 — CAPE BRETON! 💦🚒

While Team #1 was busy in Cumberland County, Team #2 headed east to Reserve Mines Fire Department - Station 25 to finish off Weekend #2 of their Pump Operations Training Course!

And if you’re going to spend the weekend moving water… you might as well make it interesting! 😎

So naturally, they brought out the crash truck! 🚒💦

Weekend #2 was all about putting the knowledge from the first weekend into action — getting hands-on with the apparatus, working through different pumping evolutions, managing water supply, operating multiple lines, and building confidence behind the pump panel.

Pump Operations is one of those skills where practice, repetition, and understanding your apparatus make all the difference. When crews need water on the fireground, the pump operator has to be ready to deliver!

A huge thank-you to the Reserve Mines Fire Department for hosting us over the two weekends and to everyone who participated. Another great group that came ready to learn, work, and have a little fun along the way!

And yes… bringing out the crash truck definitely made things a little more interesting! 😎🚒

🚒🔥 THREE TEAMS. THREE DIRECTIONS. ONE BUSY WEEKEND! 🔥🚒

Our STS team headed out in three different directions across Nova Scotia this weekend, bringing training directly to firefighters in their own communities.

📍 STOP #1 — Municipality of Cumberland

Our first team landed at the Southampton Volunteer Fire Department, where a great group of firefighters spent the weekend completing our Incident Scene Safety Officer (ISSO) Training Course.

The Incident Scene Safety Officer plays a critical role on the fireground. Throughout the weekend, we covered risk assessment, hazard recognition, firefighter accountability, situational awareness, communications, changing fireground conditions, and the responsibilities that come with keeping crews safe.

This course is about more than what’s in the book. It’s about learning to step back, see the bigger picture, recognize when conditions are changing, and have the confidence to speak up when something isn’t right.

There were plenty of great discussions, real-world experiences shared, and scenarios worked through over the two days.

A big thank-you to the Southampton Volunteer Fire Department for hosting us and to everyone who gave up another weekend to continue developing their knowledge and leadership skills.

🔥 Q3 2026 — SUMMER BREAK TO FULL SPEED AHEAD! 🔥

July through September may have started a little quieter as we took the summer break from training…but September made up for it in a BIG way! 🚒💨

We came back into the fall training season with a bang:

🔥 7 courses over just 3 weekends
🧯 Plus a weekday Fire Extinguisher Training session
🚒 Firefighters training across Nova Scotia
📚 Multiple programs and disciplines on the go
💪 And our instructor team hitting the ground running!

The momentum heading into the final quarter of 2026 has been incredible.

And then there’s 2027…

The response has exceeded anything we could have imagined. Our 2027 training calendar is essentially SOLD OUT, and we are already having conversations and booking training into 2028! 🤯

And somehow…we still have to finish 2026! 😂

October through December is shaping up to be another busy stretch, with our team travelling across the province delivering more hands-on, practical training to Nova Scotia’s Fire Service.

As always, the biggest THANK YOU goes to the fire departments, associations, firefighters, Chiefs and Training Officers who continue to put their trust in Sustainable Training Solutions Inc.

Every registration, every returning department, every referral and every opportunity means something to our team.

We started STS with a simple goal: bring quality, practical training directly to firefighters where they need it.

The support from the Nova Scotia Fire Service continues to show us that we’re heading in the right direction.

🔥🚒 TRIFECTA WEEKEND — STOP #3! 🚒🔥

Three teams. Three training events. One very busy weekend for STS! 💪

Our third and final team was also in Municipality of the District of Guysborough, this time at the Larry’s River & District Volunteer Fire Department, as their firefighters tackled Weekend #2 of their NFPA 1010 Level I Training Program!

This weekend was all about two of the most important pieces of a firefighter’s equipment — PPE and SCBA. 🔥🧑‍🚒

The group spent the weekend building confidence getting geared up, becoming more confident working in full PPE, and developing their skills while wearing and operating SCBA.

And there’s one message we can’t stress enough…

PRACTICE. PRACTICE. PRACTICE. 💪

Getting proficient with your PPE and SCBA doesn’t happen after one weekend. Repetition builds muscle memory. Muscle memory builds confidence. And confidence matters when the conditions get tough and you need to rely on your training.

This group put in the work, challenged themselves, and took another big step forward in their Level I journey. Two weekends down with plenty more great training ahead! 🔥

🔥🚒 TRIFECTA WEEKEND — STOP #2! 🚒🔥

From Cumberland County, we head east for the second stop of our busy training weekend!

This time, another STS team was back in Municipality of the District of Guysborough at the Sherbrooke & Area Volunteer Fire Department for an Emergency Vehicle Driver Training Course! 🚒💨

And what a great group to spend the weekend with!

Emergency vehicle driving is about much more than just getting behind the wheel. It’s about understanding the responsibility that comes with operating a large emergency vehicle, knowing your apparatus, building confidence, improving driving skills, and most importantly — getting everyone to the call and back home safely.

The crew in Sherbrooke brought a great attitude, a willingness to learn and challenged themselves throughout the weekend. That always makes for a great course! 👏

A huge THANK YOU to the Sherbrooke & Area Volunteer Fire Department for hosting our team and making us feel welcome. We had a great time working with everyone!

🔥🚒 TRIFECTA WEEKEND — STOP #1! 🚒🔥

Three training events. One weekend. Let’s get after it! 💪

Our first stop of this weekend’s STS Training Trifecta took us back to Cumberland County and the Oxford Fire Department, where we wrapped up Weekend #2 of our Vehicle Extrication Course! 🚗🛠️

After laying the groundwork during Weekend #1, it was time to build on those skills and get back to work with more hands-on scenarios, teamwork, tool operations, stabilization, and vehicle extrication techniques.

There’s nothing quite like watching everything start to come together during the second weekend. The confidence grows, the teamwork gets stronger, and everyone gets another opportunity to put their skills to work in realistic training scenarios.

A huge THANK YOU to the Oxford Fire Department for hosting us over both weekends and for the hospitality shown to our instructor team. And congratulations to all of the firefighters who committed their time to completing the course! 👏🔥

🔥🧯 PUTTING OUT FIRES… VIRTUALLY! 🧯🔥

Yesterday, the STS team made a stop in Chester Grant, Nova Scotia, where we had the opportunity to spend some time with the Nova Scotia Emergency Management OH&S Committee delivering hands-on Fire Extinguisher Training.

We started things off with a review of fire extinguisher basics — understanding the different types of extinguishers, selecting the right extinguisher for the situation, safe operation, and knowing when it’s time to call for help.

Then came the fun part… time to fight some fires! 🔥

Using our FLAIM Extinguisher Trainer, participants stepped into a variety of realistic fire scenarios and put their knowledge into practice.

One of the coolest things about VR training is just how quickly you become immersed in the situation. Put on the headset and suddenly you’re not standing in a training room anymore — you’re facing a fire, making decisions, positioning yourself and working through the evolution. 🥽🔥🧯

It provides a safe, controlled and environmentally friendly way to practice extinguisher skills while still adding that element of pressure and decision-making that makes practical training so valuable.

A huge thank you to the Department of Emergency Management OH&S Committee for having us in Chester Grant and for being such a great group to work with!

Another great day of training, another opportunity to make fire safety a little more interactive…and a whole lot more fun!

🚒 DOUBLE HEADER WEEKEND – STOP #2! 🚒

Our second stop of the weekend kept us in beautiful Cape Breton, but this time we made our way to the scenic island of Isle Madame! 🌊🔥

The Isle Madame Volunteer Fire Department hosted our team for a full 2-Day Emergency Vehicle Driver Training (EVDT) Course, and we had a great weekend working with their firefighters.

Emergency vehicle driving comes with a tremendous amount of responsibility. It’s not just about getting the apparatus from Point A to Point B — it’s about doing it safely, confidently, and effectively while protecting your crew, the public, and the equipment you rely on.

Over the two days, participants worked through both classroom instruction and practical driving exercises designed to build confidence behind the wheel, reinforce safe driving practices, and challenge their skills in a controlled environment. 🚒💨

A huge THANK YOU to the Isle Madame Volunteer Fire Department for hosting us and for the hospitality throughout the weekend. We always enjoy getting the opportunity to travel across Nova Scotia, reconnect with familiar faces, meet new firefighters, and bring training directly to their communities.

Two courses. Two Cape Breton stops. One busy weekend. ✅
