Take a look at this presentation to learn a bit more about the wildfire mitigation work that is planned for targeted municipal greenspaces within and adjacent to the Tumbler Ridge townsite as well as the Flatbed Campground. This work is planned to commence in the fall of 2026 and continue into the late summer of 2027 with seasonal pauses as conditions develop.

Chipping crews from Northern Rockies Tree Service will be in Tumbler Ridge today to chip piles on municipal parcels as well as registered residential properties.

Please slow down & use caution when traveling past active work areas to allow the crews to work safely.

Curious about our larger plans for treating greenspaces within and surrounding Tumbler Ridge?

Following the initial data collection for these prescriptions, greenspace in areas such as Valleyview Crescent, Willow Drive & Red Willow Avenue were determined to have a lower fuel loading or general risk level. Alternatively, due to their increased fuel loading or relation to residences, funding was prioritized to the below identified Fuel Treatment Units (FTU’s) for full mitigation, while the lower risk areas are planned to be managed through internal work or via coordinated volunteer efforts.

Check out the attached Fuel Treatment Unit Prescription Maps - these are currently submitted for review by the UBCM and once approved will be released for contractor bidding. The tentative target timeline for works to commence by fall 2026.

This chipper has a 24" diameter capacity - so there is limited opportunity for issues in terms of "too big". Please don't hesitate to reach out to discuss.
