A piece of Ottawa business history is coming to an end.

Marchand Electric, founded in 1892, has closed its doors after 134 years in business, making it one of Ottawa's oldest companies.

For generations, Marchand supplied electrical products to contractors, businesses, and homeowners throughout the National Capital Region. Like many of us, I've walked through businesses that seemed like they'd always be there. It's sad to see another long-standing Ottawa institution come to an end.

As part of the court-authorized liquidation process, a public auction will be held on August 18. www.givinggavel.com

I'm sharing a photo of the company's historical timeline because I thought many in this group would appreciate its legacy. Whether you knew Marchand or not, it's a reminder of the businesses that helped build our city.
