Crossing the finish line of the Totem to Totem Half Marathon this morning. Haawa to race organizers, volunteers and the Haida people. I feel so fortunate to have taken part in the Totem to Totem races since 2013!

Last day of the Workout to Conquer Cancer! I capped off the event with a long run this morning in Campbell River, and increased my exercise hours to over 1500 for the month! Thanks to your generous donations I raised $800 for the B.C. Cancer Agency and I’m grateful to everyone who donated or encouraged me along the way.

There’s one week left of the Workout to Conquer Cancer, where I’m exercising a minimum of 30 min every day in May to raise money for the BC Cancer Foundation. This is a cause that is very personal to me, as I’ve had many friends and family members affected by cancer. There’s still time to donate, and every dollar helps. You’ll find the link in my bio. Thank you!

Strength training is important for older adults for so many reasons! It can also be scary to start working out, especially if you’re new to weight training. Here are 5 tips to get started!
1. Start slowly. Try body weight exercises like squats and elevated pushups.
2. Focus on form! Make sure you feel the exercises in the correct muscles. Don’t add load until you have mastered form.
3. Be consistent! Schedule your workouts on your calendar and make them a priority. One workout here and there will not give you results.
4. You don’t need to join a gym. You can get an effective workout with minimal equipment.
5. Hire a knowledgeable trainer to design a program for you based on your exercise goals.

I started making egg bites recently after a client and I were discussing ways she could add more protein to her meals, and I gotta say I love them! They’re easy to make and variations are endless. These ones have sautéed mushrooms, red peppers and green onion but sometimes I’ll add sausage. Protein problem solved! How do you like your egg bites? Comment below!
