🌍 Embracing the Digital Era!

Announced last year, IRCC, aligned with Canada’s Tech Talent Strategy, clarifies requirements that may impact digital nomads—individuals who can work remotely from anywhere in the world.

For digital nomads, it’s as simple as obtaining visitor status to move to Canada for up to 6 months while working remotely for a foreign employer or, if self-employed, working independently or providing services to clients outside of Canada. If the intention is to find a Canadian employer after entry, it is advisable to apply for a work visa before starting employment. 📈

No additional documents are required for digital nomads upon entry.
If they find an employer in Canada, they should apply for a work visa.
Family members of digital nomads planning to work or study in Canada should apply for a work or study visa.

🚀 Program Update! 🚀

Since January 30, 2024, IRCC will accept the Pearson Test of English (PTE Core) language test from Pearson Canada Inc., providing more language testing options for those planning to immigrate to Canada.

The goal is to make the process more accessible and flexible for all applicants. PTE Core will be accepted in all lines of business, except the Student Direct Stream (SDS). Additionally, electronic copies of language test results will now be accepted.

Minister of Immigration Marc Miller has announced measures to stabilize the growth of the international student population.

🎓 For 2024, a maximum limit of 360,000 study permits will be established, representing a 35% reduction from 2023. This limitation will be distributed among provinces and territories, prioritizing reductions in regions with unsustainable growth. Study renewals, master's, doctoral, elementary, and high school programs are exempt from this reduction.

📚 Starting from January 22, 2024, new applications will require an attestation letter issued by the province or territory. These processes are expected to be in place by March 31, 2024. These measures will be valid for two years, with a review in 2025.

💼 Graduates from master's and other short-term postgraduate programs will soon be able to apply for a 3-year work permit.

🌍 Other changes include open work permits for spouses of students in master's and doctoral programs, as well as professional programs such as medicine and law, while spouses in other levels of study will no longer be eligible.

Yesterday, on January 16th, Minister of Immigration Marc Miller announced measures to support Francophone immigration outside of Quebec.

🇫🇷 These measures include the renewal and expansion of the Welcoming Francophone Communities initiative, a new program to support Francophone immigration, and the implementation of the Official Languages Action Plan – all of which will strengthen the presence of French in Canada.

🤑 These initiatives are supported by an investment of over $137 million and will facilitate the strengthening, long-term growth, and vitality of Francophone minority communities outside of Quebec.
