π Today we're introducing Devon de Balasi Brown, the founder of Spruce.
Why did you start Spruce? π€
In 2023 the majority of consumers want to keep their products out of the landfill through repair, alteration and resale. They want to give their money to brands who share their values and keep them using the things they love. But we're in an awkward stage where it's just too hard for most brands to meet these customer needs. Spruce provides a modern solution. In five years Spruce will be a household name as the product renewal enabler for leading brands.
What's your background? π
I spent over a decade in the outdoor industry at Arc'teryx leading teams and initiatives related to repair, warranty, re-sale, and retail innovation. While I was there we grew the business 10x, and my focus was always on championing sustainability and scalability.
What's a recent project you're really proud of?ππΌ
Launching ReBird Service Centers for Arc'teryx was extremely fulfilling. We brought repair and care into the spotlight in four prominent retail stores across North America, and got phenomenal feedback from customers and staff.
What motivates you? π₯
I'm intrinsically drawn to tackling large, complex problems, and I love to advocate for the underdog. I see the circular economy as the path through the bad situation we're creating on this planet. I also have a penchant for quality things, and that means taking care of them, and fixing them when they break. I think Spruce can be the tide that rises all boats, let's do this!!
