Canada says it needs more skilled workers.

But according to a new report from the Institute for Canadian Citizenship (ICC), many of the skilled workers Canada already has are unable to work in the professions they trained for.

Speaking at a news conference in Ottawa, ICC CEO Daniel Bernhard said Canada continues to attract highly qualified newcomers, including doctors, nurses, and other professionals, but often makes it difficult for them to have their credentials recognized and fully contribute in their fields.

The report estimates that approximately 640,000 immigrants in Canada are currently overqualified for the jobs they hold.

Perhaps the most striking finding is this: if immigrant overqualification rates were reduced to the Canadian average, Canada could potentially gain an estimated 27,000 nurses and 16,000 doctors, without increasing immigration levels.

Bernhard argues that better recognition of foreign qualifications could help address labour shortages, particularly in healthcare, where many communities continue to struggle with access to care.

If you’re a newcomer, have you experienced challenges getting your education, experience, or professional credentials recognized?

⚠️ IRCC Warning: Marriage Fraud Can Lead to Serious Consequences

Thinking a marriage certificate alone is enough to secure Canadian immigration? Think again.
IRCC has issued a reminder that entering into a marriage of convenience, a relationship created primarily for immigration purposes, is a serious offence under Canadian immigration law.

Immigration officers carefully assess sponsorship applications and are trained to identify relationships that are not genuine. A finding of misrepresentation can result in refusals, bans, and other serious immigration consequences.

If you’re planning to sponsor your spouse or common-law partner, make sure you understand the requirements and provide evidence of a genuine relationship.
The best immigration strategy is always the honest one.

Have you noticed that relationship-based applications are receiving increased scrutiny in recent years?

🚨 IRCC has updated its processing times, and there are some notable changes for temporary residence applicants.

The good news? Most processing times have either improved or remained stable.

Some of the biggest changes include:

• Work permit processing dropped from 10 weeks to 9 weeks for applicants in India
• U.S. work permit processing improved from 5 weeks to 4 weeks
• Super visa processing for U.S. applicants improved by 10 days
• Pakistan visitor visa processing improved from 49 days to 47 days

One area that moved in the opposite direction was study permits for India, which increased from 4 weeks to 5 weeks.

Remember: processing times are estimates, not guarantees. Factors such as application completeness, background checks, document requests, and overall application volumes can affect how quickly a decision is made.

If you’re planning to apply for a work permit, study permit, visitor visa, or super visa, now is a good time to ensure your application is complete and professionally prepared.

🚨British Columbia has conducted its latest round of invitations, the first draw since May 14, and more than 300 candidates have been invited to apply for provincial nomination.

Here’s where BC focused this round:

• Childcare occupations – 91 invitations (minimum score: 111)
• Healthcare occupations – 117 invitations (minimum score: 100)
• Veterinary care occupations – 6 invitations (minimum score: 92)
• Construction trades – 128 invitations (minimum score: 101)

One thing is becoming very clear: British Columbia is continuing to prioritize occupations that address labour shortages and support essential services.

Healthcare, childcare, construction, and veterinary professionals remain firmly on the province’s radar.
If you’re working in one of these sectors, this draw is another reminder that occupation matters more than ever when planning your Canadian immigration strategy.

Congratulations to everyone who received an invitation today! 🎉

June 2026 is shaping up to be an important month for anyone navigating Canada’s immigration system.

While there isn’t a single major federal policy change taking effect this month, several deadlines, program updates, and provincial immigration developments could have a direct impact on applicants, employers, international graduates, temporary workers, and families.

From the end of IRCC’s public consultation on future immigration levels to the expiry of a temporary study policy for certain work permit holders, this is a month where staying informed matters. We’re also seeing significant developments in Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, and Quebec that could create new opportunities for some applicants while creating urgency for others.

One thing we’ve learned from working with clients over the years is that immigration success is often about timing. Missing a deadline, overlooking a policy change, or waiting too long to act can have a significant impact on your options.

If you’re unsure how these changes affect your situation, our team can help assess your eligibility, review your immigration options, and create a strategy based on your goals.

Are you still waiting to receive the ITA after the draw on May 28, 2026?

IRCC Acknowledges Express Entry Invitation Issue

🇨🇦 Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced that some candidates who were eligible for the Express Entry French-Language Proficiency Draw ( #418 – May 28, 2026) did not receive Invitations to Apply (ITAs) as expected.

⚠️ According to IRCC:

"We're reviewing the situation and will provide updates as needed. You don't need to take any action at this time."

What This Means:

✅ If you were expecting an invitation under the French-language category and did not receive one, IRCC is aware of the issue.

✅ No action is required from affected candidates at this time.

✅ IRCC is currently reviewing the situation and may issue further instructions or corrective measures.

Our Recommendation:

If you believe you were eligible for this draw but did not receive an ITA:
📌 Do not withdraw your profile.
📌 Do not create a new Express Entry profile.
📌 Monitor your IRCC account and official announcements.
📌 Keep your profile active and up to date.

We will continue monitoring the situation and provide updates as soon as IRCC releases additional information.

One of the most common questions we hear from Express Entry candidates is:

“If I’m studying online while working in Canada, will my work experience still count for CEC?”

IRCC has now provided clarification.

According to the department, distance learning through a foreign institution that does not require any in-Canada study component is generally not considered “study” for this purpose. This means eligible Canadian work experience obtained during that period may still count toward Canadian Experience Class eligibility and CRS points.

IRCC still reviews every application individually and the work experience must meet all other program requirements.

This is why understanding the details of your situation matters. A small misunderstanding about eligibility can have a major impact on your Express Entry profile.

Did this clarification surprise you?

🎉 PR APPROVED IN JUST 3 MONTHS! 🇨🇦
Our client came to us after receiving a BC PNP invitation, but there was a problem.
The profile had the wrong NOC code, and the salary did not match the approved LMIA, creating compliance concerns that could have put the entire application at risk.

We carefully reviewed the file, prepared detailed explanations, and worked with the employer to provide supporting documentation.

✅ BC PNP Approved
✅ PR Submitted in February 2026
✅ Permanent Residence Approved 3 Months Later

This approval is a reminder that even small mistakes can have serious consequences in an immigration application.

British Columbia has released the full eligibility requirements for its new temporary pathway to permanent residence.

Unlike many recent immigration announcements, this initiative is highly targeted. It focuses on a small group of workers who play an important role in supporting healthcare services in rural and remote communities.

The pathway is limited to approximately 250 workers and includes only three occupations: cleaners, janitors, and security guards employed directly by eligible BC health authorities.

For eligible workers, this could become one of the most important provincial nomination opportunities available in 2026.

However, the requirements are specific. Work location, employer type, occupation, work history, education, income, and BC PNP eligibility rules will all play a role.

We’ve broken down the key details in this post.
Do you think Canada should create more PR pathways for essential support workers?

Comment “BCPNP” if you’d like more information about this pathway and whether it may fit your situation.
