Warning a loud air noise at start!

The vertical steam donkey engine works!

Then a fast paced chuff as the engine is tested on air. One thing that is often overlooked in real steam engines and in models is the fact that the valve timing must not be on dead center. If it is, it's going to hunt back and forth, it will not rotate.

The connection for various kitchen sink drain augers was broken and had to be TIG welded back in place.

The statue with the new pewter foot and base is finally coming together. In order for the low center of gravity to be as weighty as possible, I had to add lead to the pewter and then coat the whole piece in epoxy so that the lead would not leech out and cause problems. The original patina will be created to make it look like nothing ever happened!

The Japanese glass net float is being measured for a lampshade that is in the best proportion. For this 10 inch ball the lampshade should be 14" at its base and 9 " high. Still in mockup stage. The cord tube will be next to attach after careful heating and rounding the steel base.

Now that the fasteners are tight the eccentric rod and valve timing is off. The poor engine is hunting for the slide valve to move properly. I will need to lengthen the valve rod. On air the safety valve lifts at about15 psi.
