"I remember the season before I got Mazz. It was a great year with great folks, but the number one takeaway I had that season was that I needed a block dog stat. So when I got home I started visiting the shelters looking for what seemed like a suitable plating companion. I wasnt exactly sure what that would look like, but I'm pretty sure it wasnt what I walked away with. I'd looked at all the available dogs for a couple hours and had just about decided to call it a day when they brought her back into one of the kennels. She looked miserable in that cage, one of the saddest looking dogs I'd ever seen. But it took all of two minutes of getting to know her before I was filling out the paperwork to bring her home, and the turnaround was incredible. From saddest to happiest dog in the span of one car ride. Best decision I ever made. She's been an instant favorite at just about every camp we've ever been to, and took to the block like a pro. No matter what the land or weather was like, she's been my shadow ever since, never wandering and always trying to help out. She even has a real talent for finding the perfect micro site.... and then sitting on it before you can get a tree in. I'm maybe not quite a highballer when it comes to planting, but when it comes to picking a block dog? I definitely highballed that."
