With the North Coast Transmission Line now advancing through the Major Projects Office, a first major phase of the northwest transmission expansion is moving forward – bringing clean power infrastructure north and strengthening the case for the Yukon-B.C. Grid Connect.

The Yukon-B.C. Grid Connect would extend that connection into the Yukon, improving energy security and supporting responsible critical minerals development across the North.

The morning kicked off with the Hon. Ted Laking, Yukon Minister of Energy, Mines, and Resources, announcing new government initiatives to streamline permitting and support major mine development in the territory.

That was followed by a fireside chat covering the Yukon's growing momentum as a critical minerals jurisdiction, the importance of building strong and respectful First Nations relationships, and what it takes to move beyond exploration success toward real mine development.

At last week’s premiers’ meeting, B.C. Premier David Eby underscored the importance of regional power grid connectivity – calling clean, reliable electricity “crucial to our future”.

He thanked the Prime Minister for highlighting Canada’s clean, affordable power advantage, and emphasized the importance of working together to strengthen grid connections across Canada’s west and north, including the Yukon.

Expanded regional grid connectivity has the potential to strengthen energy security, support communities and industry across the North, and enable long-term economic development.

With ~130 MW of baseload demand and a projected C$44 billion contribution to Canada’s GDP, Casino can help anchor new northern energy infrastructure and long-term regional growth.

2025 has been an important year of progress for Western Copper and Gold.

We were pleased to welcome Mark Smith and Pamela O'Hara to our Board of Directors. Their experience in permitting, technical oversight, and responsible project development will be invaluable.

In October, Casino's ESE Statement was submitted – marking the furthest the project has ever progressed in its assessment and permitting pathway. This milestone coincides with record copper and gold prices and a renewed focus on the Yukon.

The territory saw record equity inflows in 2025, alongside a strengthening pipeline of advanced project and rising industry conviction. At the federal level, priorities around northern infrastructure and strategic resource corridors continue to advance, with the Yukon-B.C. Grid Connect referred to the Major Projects Office.

Western has also seen improving liquidity and market visibility – reflecting growing recognition of the value and strategic importance of the Casino Project.

Together, these developments have built a strong foundation for continued momentum in 2026.
