The Vancouver Filipino chef meal train has donated over 2,000 meals to people impacted by the tragic violence after the Lapu-Lapu Day block party. Food is medicine. Thanks to everyone making it happen: Cyril from .yvr, the team cooking, volunteers doing deliveries, and everyone donating. Reach out if you know someone who needs support. Praying for everyone healing. 🙏🏽

Thanks for the support .ca

Getting into the spirit of giving ✨🎁

While the team get through the busy holiday party catering season, we thank our community partners and supporters for helping us with our community initiatives! Like Volvo Canada for hiring us for their influencer event last summer; Where we used Sustainable ingredients and recover food surplus to highlight circular food economy innovation.

There was also a beehive on top that produced honey for Volvo Canada to give to our friends at foodstash 🍯

This Holiday season, give it to your local charities like and

We couldn’t be more grateful for the incredible support from our community as we gear up for A Night of Too Many Chefs, happening on May 5th at the False Creek Yacht Club. These fantastic supporters have generously stepped up to make the event even more amazing.

🍰 Goldilocks, a Filipino bake shop who has donated desserts and pandesal.

🎣 Organic Ocean Seafood, created to foster a sustainable seafood industry, in which fishermen would be fairly rewarded for their investment, effort, and personal risk. They have generously donated surplus seafood for the event.

🍎 Sea Cider Farm & Ciderhouse, a farm-based cidery nestled in Saanichton, is providing samples.

🥘 Paella Guys, a full-service catering company that strives to bring you the essence of the Spanish dining experience, will be lending their paella pans to make surplus paella.

Let's take a moment to celebrate the organizer of A Night of Too Many Chefs: Chef TJ Conwi, the proud owner of Ono Vancouver and ReRoot.

TJ’s culinary journey seamlessly blends his love for West Coast and Asian cuisine tracing back to his Filipino heritage and spanning across kitchens in Taiwan to Chile. His focus on organic, local, and sustainable ingredients is the highlight of his dishes.

After training under esteemed French chefs at the Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts, TJ refined his skills at The Arbutus Club and Delta Hotels by Marriott Vancouver Downtown Suites. He has executed elaborate hotel functions, galas for the Japanese, Filipino, and French Consulate, and large-scale events, including the BC Food & Beverage Awards and Chefs in the Hood.

At Ono, he leverages his expertise, creativity, and connections to make an impact in the food industry. His business services – ranging from event catering, private dining, and ReRoot home meal replacement – all fuel his community-minded goals:
- Fight food insecurity
- End food waste
- Ensure all children have access to healthy lunch at school

At the onset of the pandemic, Chef TJ, alongside Sean McDonald and the Ono team created ReRoot, a new brand dedicated to turning surplus food into a sustainable product line. Partnering with Vancouver Food Runners, surplus food is redistributed to various community organizations in the Downtown Eastside.

Proceeds from A Night of Too Many Chefs support ReRoot's community meals program. To date, the team has cooked over 300,000 meals for charity at no charge and diverted over 10 tonnes of food from the landfill!

It is a pleasure to partner with Vancouver Food Runners.

As featured in the documentary The Interceptors, which will be screened at A Night of Too Many Chefs on May 5th at the False Creek Yacht Club, VFR plays a pivotal role in the mission of ReRoot.

Additionally, Michelle Reining, Executive Director of Vancouver Food Runners and a prominent figure in the film, will join our discussion.

Their mission is clear: bridge the gap between the 58% of food produced in Canada that goes to waste, while 1 in 6 households in British Columbia struggle with food insecurity.

Join us in celebrating their contribution this Sunday at A Night of Too Many Chefs!
