A "lighting scene" sounds technical, but the idea is simple.

Instead of adjusting several lights individually, a single button can set the entire space for what you're doing.

Entertaining: feature lighting on, dining lights softened, exterior lighting ready.

Movie night: lights dimmed, shades closed.

Does a smart home stop working when the internet goes down?

A properly designed system shouldn't.

Many of the essential functions within a professional automation system operate locally within the home, rather than relying entirely on the cloud.

Your internet connection is still important for streaming, remote access and certain services, but basic control shouldn't disappear because your provider has an outage.

Some systems can even have back ups that work on cellular data or other services such as star link.

It's an important distinction when choosing how your home is designed and what back ups you need in place.

But the equipment rack tells you a lot about the quality of an installation.

Clear labelling, sensible cable management, ventilation, serviceability and room for future changes all matter.

A well-built rack isn't just satisfying to look at.
