Semios - Crop Management Platform

Semios - Crop Management Platform Semios delivers on-farm solutions and field services that help growers enhance efficiency, mitigate risk, and boost productivity.

Semios offers a full-service solution that allows growers to monitor real-time in-field conditions. The service includes the installations and maintenance of a wireless network of sensors and controls. The system reports every 10 mins and the data is hosted on the cloud. The analysis is available on PCs via our web interface and on apps for mobile devices. Semios offers modules for pests, disease,

weather, frost and irrigation. Pests: Semios offers automated camera-enabled insect traps that are remotely analyzed night, providing the grower and consultants with daily counts. The trap counts are displayed over the degree days calculated for that orchard, based on local weather inputs. We also offer remotely controlled dispensers that deliver pheromones, an alternative to pesticides, when and where needed. Semios has a range of registered conventional and organic-certified pheromone products for pests such as navel orangeworm (NOW), codling moth (CM), oriental fruit moth, (OFM), oblique banded leaf rollers (OBLR), European grape berry moth (EGBM) and European Grape Vine Moth (EGVM). Disease: Semios offers leaf wetness sensors that, when combined with other environmental conditions, provide insights into disease risk thresholds. Disease models continue to be added and already include fireblight and alternaria. Weather: All Semios deployments include weather stations that report precipitation, humidity, wind direction, wind speed, barometric pressure, wetbulb and temperature. Frost: Semios offers insights into the risk of frost events and the best mitigation strategy. We measure temperature difference below and above canopy to confirm and calculate the strength of an inversion, which would validate the use of frost wind fans. We also measure sprinkler thresholds for irrigation frost control. Irrigation: Semios offers real-time analysis of soil mositure levels. Using industry-leading digital time domain transmissometry (TDT) water sensors for shallow (eg 1’) and deep (eg 3’) readings with an accuracy of 2%. We also offer soil temperature readings at both levels wtih 0.1 degree accuracy.

✅ Get a high-level view of your crops’ status without extra boots on the ground
✅ Gain early visibility into potential issues to direct scouting efforts
✅ Monitor change throughout the season

Up next on our Faces of Semios series where we spotlight the team members working alongside growers every day: Meet Jeff Thorning, Territory Manager for Stanislaus & San Joaquin Counties in California.

Jeff has an impressive 20+ years of experience working in ag under his belt. Today, he’s just as passionate about working with growers and helping solve their problems with the right tech. When he’s not busy working, you’ll find him enjoying the occasional Sonic Cherry Limeade or camping trip with the family.

Fun fact: 🚗 During peak season, Jeff has driven over 1,200 miles in a single week to support supporting the growers in his area.

What if you didn’t have to be in the field every time irrigation needed attention?

With irrigation automation, you can remotely manage pumps and valves, ensuring irrigation runs when it should even when crews are stretched thin.

Combine that with irrigation monitoring, and you get a clear record of what's been applied to your fields, every time.

📺 In case you missed it: Semios Territory Manager Sydnee Whitehead sat down with KGET Studio 17 to discuss the role technology plays in helping growers navigate increasing challenges and perpetuate farming into the future.

Joined by other voices in the industry like Dr. Aaron Hegney from the Grimm Family Center for Agricultural Business at CSUB, and Yuval Garcia with the California Safety Training Corporation, the conversation also highlighted the importance of education in the ag community. This ranges from equipping the next generation with the needed tech skills to keeping workers and communities safe through proper safety training.
