When I came to Canada, I brought two things with me: my suitcase…and a dream.
I came to Canada carrying more than luggage. I carried a dream—to build a better life, create security for my family, and someday enjoy the rewards of all sacrifices.
But like many immigrants, the dream came with a reality I didn’t fully expect: starting over, working hard, being away from family, and putting my own dreams aside just to survive.
Now, as I approach retirement, the dream has changed. It’s no longer simply about working and providing. It’s about time freedom, financial security, family, travel, and creating something for the next chapter of my life.
Fellow immigrants, what dreams are you still carrying with you?
