Working with Trauma and the Nervous System: Somatic and Polyvagal-Informed Approaches

In this webinar, Jenifer Freedy draws on her experience supporting survivors of trauma to explain how therapists can work with the nervous system to support more attuned and effective work with clients.

The session focused on recognizing and responding to patterns of activation, shutdown, and dissociation as meaningful protective responses, rather than symptoms to be managed.

Jenifer discussed how a polyvagal-informed lens can support therapists in tracking moment-to-moment shifts, and adjusting their interventions to better support safety, pacing, and connection.

Integrating somatic techniques and polyvagal principles with parts-oriented work, Jen highlighted practical ways to stay aligned with a clientโ€™s capacity while deepening therapeutic attunement. The emphasis is on working with what is happening with the client, by supporting regulation without pushing beyond what feels manageable for the client.

This webinar is well-suited for therapists working with trauma who want to strengthen their understanding of regulation and protective responses, while keeping the therapeutic relationship at the center of the work.

IFS and Climate Distress: Supporting Clients Through Eco-Anxiety and Collective Uncertainty

Climate change is increasingly becoming a significant psychological concern. Many clients are bringing feelings of grief, fear, anger, and helplessness about the climate crisis into the therapy room.

For therapists, this raises important questions: How do we help clients process eco-anxiety without pathologizing their concerns? How do we stay grounded while working with such large, collective realities?

In this engaging webinar, Dr. Natalie Thomas explored how Internal Family Systems (IFS) can provide a practical framework for working with climate-related anxiety. Drawing on IFS principles, she discussed how different โ€œpartsโ€ respond to climate change and how working with these parts can help clients feel less overwhelmed.

Participants learned how IFS can help clients navigate overwhelming emotions related to climate distress in ways that are grounded, compassionate, and manageable. Dr. Thomas also explored how therapists can work with their own climate-related feelings while remaining present and effective with clients.

Join us for this thoughtful conversation and discover ways to support clients experiencing eco-anxiety, while helping them cultivate hope, resilience, and agency in uncertain times.
