Before the word "resource" entered the business conversation, Indigenous peoples were building economies in land, knowledge, relationships, and community.
The Indian Act of 1876 disrupted those systems. Yet Indigenous peoples never stopped building.
In 2000, the Nisga'a Final Agreement became the first modern treaty in British Columbia. Today, the Nisga'a Nation holds a 77% ownership interest in Nations Royalty Corp., built on the principle that Indigenous peoples should share in the long-term value created on their traditional territories.
This National Indigenous History Month, we recognize the enduring legacy of Indigenous leadership, entrepreneurship, and wealth creation.
We were always building. And we continue to build.
This is National Indigenous History Month
