When ants keep coming back, it usually means there’s an established colony nearby or inside your home.

Here’s what we focus on professionally in Metro Vancouver:
We start by identifying where ants are entering and trailing from, then work to locate and target the main colony at the source. From there, we apply the proper treatments to eliminate the infestation and seal entry points around windows, doors, and foundations. We also follow up to make sure the problem is fully resolved.

The goal isn’t just to get rid of the ants you see. It’s to stop the colony from coming back.

If you’re seeing early signs of ants around your home in Metro Vancouver, there are a few basic things I always suggest checking first.

It’s best to start with the simple things, like keeping food sealed and cleaning up crumbs or spills right away. Regularly wiping down counters and floors can also make a big difference.

I also recommend sealing any cracks or gaps around windows, doors, and foundations, along with fixing moisture issues like leaks under sinks or near appliances.

Even something as small as leaving pet food out too long can attract ants.

These steps can help reduce the chances of ants getting inside. They won’t stop a determined colony, but they do make your home a lot less inviting.

May is when I start getting more calls about ants around Metro Vancouver.

At first, it’s usually just a few trails along the kitchen counter or near windows. But once ants find a food source, they don’t stop coming without proper treatment.

Ants typically start by invading kitchens and pantries in search of food, forming visible trails along walls, floors, and entry points.

As activity increases, they can nest inside walls, under floors, or around foundations, contaminating food and surfaces. Without proper control, colonies can grow quickly and become much harder to eliminate.

When spider activity becomes consistent, basic cleaning usually isn’t enough. I see this a lot across Metro Vancouver.

Most of the time, spiders are there because of insect activity. If that’s not addressed, they keep coming back even after webs are removed.

When I handle spider issues, I start with a full inspection to find where activity is building and where insects are getting in. That usually includes checking basements, window frames, exterior gaps, and areas with moisture.

Treatment focuses on reducing both spider activity and the conditions that support it. I also address entry points so the problem doesn’t repeat.

Long-term control comes down to handling the source, not just what’s visible.

There are a few things I recommend homeowners in Metro Vancouver do to reduce spider activity inside the home.

Start by removing webs early. Vacuum corners, ceiling edges, and baseboards regularly so spiders don’t settle in the same spots.

Keep moisture under control, especially in basements and storage areas. Damp environments attract insects, which attract spiders.

Check windows and doors for small gaps and repair any damaged screens. Even small openings can let insects in.

Outside, clear debris away from the foundation and avoid letting plants touch the exterior walls.

These steps won’t eliminate everything, but they help reduce the conditions spiders rely on.

I start seeing spider calls pick up around April every year in Metro Vancouver.

At first, it’s usually a few webs in corners or near windows. Then people start noticing them more often — in basements, along ceilings, or around door frames.

What most don’t realize is that spiders stay where there’s a steady food source.

Spiders themselves don’t cause much damage, but the issue is constant visibility and the feeling that they keep coming back no matter how often you clean. In some cases, I also find increased insect activity, which is what’s actually attracting them.

Most homeowners remove the webs, but that doesn’t solve why they’re there.
Below is a quick look at a recent spider job I handled.

When ants are already established, surface cleaning isn’t enough. I see this a lot across Metro Vancouver.

Killing the ants you see doesn’t remove the colony. Most of the nest stays hidden behind walls, under slabs, or outside along the foundation.

When I handle ant issues, I start with a full inspection to trace the trail and identify entry points. After that, I use targeted bait systems so worker ants carry treatment back to the colony.

I also seal entry gaps and address moisture issues that are attracting them.
Long-term ant control only works when the source and access points are handled properly. Otherwise, they relocate and come back.

There are a few things I recommend homeowners do to lower the chances of ants getting comfortable inside.

First, keep food sealed. Sugar, flour, cereal, and even pet food should be in airtight containers. Original packaging is easy for ants to get through.

Second, wipe down counters and floors at night. Even small crumbs or spills can keep a trail active.

Check for moisture too. Ants are often drawn to small leaks under sinks or behind dishwashers.

Outside the home, keep foundation lines clear and trim back plants that touch exterior walls. Ants use those as access points.

These steps won’t eliminate an established colony, but they do reduce the risk.
