Keep your jewellery insurance appraisals up to date!

If you have any jewellery items scheduled and insured separately under your home insurance policy you may want to make sure that your appraisals are up to date. With a decreased supply of diamonds in the market today COMBINED with a decreased demand, there has been an impact on diamond pricing. The way that insurance companies price insurance for your scheduled jewellery items is at a cost per $100 (or other amount) of coverage based on the full replacement cost of your item.

If you have not had your appraisals updated recently, you may inadvertently be paying too much for your insurance because in many cases the value of the item may have decreased this past year. The insurance company is only obligated to replace your item, not to pay out the amount of money that you have insured the item for, and only if you chose to replace the jewellery item.
