What does it actually feel like to build a business where your personal name is the promise?

Every couple who hires Elle Beccera is trusting that she will show up - creatively, logistically, emotionally for one of the most important and memorable days of their entire lives.

Elle is the founder of Events by Elle, a luxury wedding and event planning company based in Miami. From the outside her world looks like pure elegance: refined aesthetics, high end clientele, celebrity events, a portfolio that stops you mid scroll. But in Episode 196 we get the version that doesn't make it into the portfolio.

We talk about starting a business straight out of college at 21 with nothing but a dream and a dad who believed in her before she fully believed in herself. We talk about fighting for credibility when every potential client gave her the look the moment they saw how young she was. We talk about building a team when what you are selling is your name and your service and the terrifying process of trusting other people with both.

She shares how she built her own systems from scratch because nothing else worked for her brain, how she launched a consulting arm during COVID that took on a life she never expected, and how she learned to set time boundaries in an industry built entirely on availability. And what she had to unlearn about control in order to become the leader her team actually needed.

She also shares two wedding day moments she will never forget. One involves confetti, one involves a rainstorm, a bride who refused to move her ceremony inside, and an entire vendor team on their hands and knees without being asked.

If you are building something: a business, a brand, a life on your own terms, this conversation is exactly what you need to hear today.

Some founders have a plan. Ana Escalante Morejon had a layoff, a vision, and the kind of stubborn clarity that doesn't need a roadmap.

Episode 195 of the At Home with Founders is live.

Ana is the Miami-based founder of a genderless wellness brand and curated retailer built on one quiet conviction: the products you bring into your life should mean something.

She spent years as a corporate buyer, sitting across from small brand founders with extraordinary products and almost no visibility. When the layoff came two months before her 30th birthday, she stopped waiting for the version of herself that would finally be ready. She filed the LLC, bought the domain, and started with what she knew and loved.

In this episode, we talk about all of it. The fear of telling people she was building something. The moment the startup funds started to dwindle. The creative burnout that comes for every solo founder and the 24–48 hours of intentional rest she uses to find her way back. The perfectionism she had to unlearn. The self-knowledge she didn't expect a business to hand her.
And where Btwnthesheets is going next: international curation, seasonal assortments, and community-driven pop-ups in Miami.

This is the kind of conversation that stays with you. Honest and grounded.

You are about to hire someone. Maybe you have already started looking, maybe you have a name in mind, maybe you have been thinking about it for six months and you are finally ready to pull the trigger.

Before you do, there are things your business needs to have in place first because the hire only works when there is something solid for that person to step into.

Here is what that actually looks like.
Your client experience needs to be mapped and documented.
Every stage from first inquiry to final offboarding, written down - not living in your head. If you cannot hand someone a document that shows them exactly how a client moves through your business, you are not ready to hand a client to someone else.

Your core processes need to exist somewhere other than your memory. The way things get done in your business: how projects are briefed, how work is reviewed, how communication with clients is handled - needs to be documented specifically enough that someone else can follow it and meet your standard without asking you what you meant at every step.

Your role needs to be defined.
Not just theirs, yours. You need to know exactly what you are handing off and exactly what stays with you. Without that clarity, work will accumulate in a grey zone neither of you owns and you will end up managing the role you thought you were delegating.

Your onboarding needs to be built before they arrive.
Not a day of walking them through everything you can think of. A real onboarding: the documents, the processes, the tools, the standards, the context they need to do the work without coming back to you every hour.

Your communication infrastructure needs to exist.
How does your team communicate? Where do updates live? How are decisions made and documented? How do you give feedback? If the answer is we figure it out as we go - that is not a system.

Your financial picture needs to be clear.
Before you add a cost to your business, you need to know what your margins actually look like. Which projects are profitable, what capacity you actually have.

The right hire at the wrong time, into a business that was never built to hold anyone but you, will make things harder, not easier.

Working with Shannon of Captivate Benefits was the kind of partnership every founder dreams of: values-aligned, deeply collaborative, and rooted in mutual respect.

She’s carving her own lane in her industry with clarity, courage, and heart. Watching her step into this next chapter with a rock-solid operational foundation has been an absolute honour and I’m grateful to have played a small part in supporting her vision come to life.

Here’s what she shared about our work together:

“Before working with Jessica, my business was held together by a wing and a prayer. Everything lived in my head, and I was constantly worried about dropping the ball with clients as I grew. I came to her desperately needing workflows, structure, and clarity and what I received was far beyond what I imagined. Jessica created a full business operating system that not only supports how I work, but elevates how I serve. I now feel confident, grounded, and capable of wowing my clients from first touchpoint through full delivery and that means everything to me.

What surprised me most was the sheer depth of what we covered and how deeply Jessica integrated my vision into every detail. Yes, the systems are exceptional but her calm, compassionate support through the inevitable discomfort of change made all the difference. I feel so taken care of emotionally and operationally and I can already see how this foundation will allow me to grow with more ease, less stress, and more joy. Working with Jessica was nothing short of magical.”

It’s a privilege to walk alongside founders like Shannon - women who lead with depth, dare to do things differently, and are quietly changing what this industry looks like.

Here’s to legacy building.

If you’re still making every decision, checking over every task, and staying involved in every detail… you’re not leading. You’re managing.

And that’s exactly why you feel stuck.

→ Truth #1: Your need to “be involved” is slowing down your team.
If everything needs your approval, nothing moves without you. That’s not control—it’s a bottleneck.

→ Truth #2: If you don’t trust your team to execute, the problem isn’t them—it’s the systems (or lack of them).
Hiring talented people won’t fix a business with no structure. They need clear processes, ownership, and decision-making authority to succeed.

→ Truth #3: The highest-level CEOs aren’t stuck in the day-to-day—they’ve built businesses that run without them.
They don’t check over every email, approve every post, or triple-check every deliverable. They’ve built systems that ensure quality, efficiency, and consistency—without their constant oversight.

→ Truth #4: If you don’t fix this, your business can’t grow.
There’s no room for scaling when everything still runs through you.

So, ask yourself: What’s the hardest thing for you to let go of? Drop it in the comments. Let’s talk.
