As our work alongside Indigenous communities across Turtle Island continues to grow, we’re looking for an Operations Coordinator to help hold the systems, relationships, and day-to-day work that make it all possible.

If you’re between the ages of 18-30, organized, collaborative, values-driven, and excited to contribute to an Indigenous-led Just Transition, we’d love to hear from you.

This event is focussed on bringing together Indigenous energy leaders, practitioners, and allies. It offers a unique opportunity to build new partnerships, inform policy, and create pathways to advance a just energy transition in so-called Canada.

Federal and provincial governments have been talking about a clean energy future. But the transition to clean energy future must be more than changing where our energy comes from.

A Just Transition means moving away from fossil fuels and the systems of exploitation that created the climate crisis, while building energy systems rooted in Indigenous rights, sovereignty, community ownership, and care for land, water, and future generations.

Across Turtle Island, Indigenous communities are already showing us what this can look like.

Renewable energy. Energy sovereignty. Community-led solutions. Cultural and language revitalization. Economic opportunity. Protection of the land and water.

The future is already being built through strong investments and major projects. It’s imperative we work collectively across sectors and jurisdictions to ensure we build a sustainable, equitable, and just future for all.

Last month, our founder and Executive Director Melina Laboucan-Massimo joined leaders from around the world as a keynote speaker at the 67th Zonta International Convention in the ancestral and unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Coast Salish Nations.

Zonta brings together women and allies working to advance human rights, gender equality, and a more just world (including through climate justice).

It was an honour to bring Indigenous perspectives, knowledge, and experiences into that global conversation, and to share the work we’re building in partnership with communities across Turtle Island.

From local community energy projects advancing climate action and a just energy transition, to research, advocacy, K-12 education, storytelling, and Indigenous-led community building, the work of Sacred Earth goes beyond any one project, session, or place. And none of it wouldn’t be possible without our incredible team, our community partners, and the relationships that continue to guide our work 💛

Our team recently had the honour of spending the week on shíshálh Territory alongside Swiya Farms, Salish Soils, the Sunshine Coast Community Solar Association, the North American Solar Academy, and many community members to support the journey in Powering Swiya Farms with clean and renewable energy systems ☀️

We are so grateful for our time in community, and the shared meals & learning. Over the course of this week, folks got to learn more about the work ahead at Swiya and took part in hands-on solar design and installation training.

These community-driven efforts of strengthening Indigenous-led stewardship, building local capacity, creating opportunities for energy transition skills, and investing in a future rooted in reciprocity and self-determination are why our team is so passionate about the work we do alongside Indigenous communities.

Ay-hai, nya:węh, ?ul nu msh chalap, thank you to everyone who welcomed us, shared their knowledge, and contributed to an inspiring week of learning and relationship-building.

Since taking office, Carney has pushed Canada further down the path of privatization and austerity, the same agenda that’s been widening the income gap for decades, now in hyper-mode.

We intend to meet them in the streets.
