A double-crested cormorant (Nannopterum auritum) taking a break from fishing the cold waters of Howe Sound near Squamish, BC. This bird sat perched upon a floating buoy, stretched its wings, and sunned itself for a solid 20 minutes before returning to hunting for small fish.

Here’s a photo captured by Rodrigo Mateos Cuervo, Environmental Professional 3 from our Vancouver office, featuring a barred owl (Strix varia). This owl sat silently in a Squamish forest, carefully listening to its surroundings and waiting for the perfect moment to hunt for small vertebrates.🦉
