What nursing actually looks like — and why we still choose it.

You clock in and the list is already too long, before anything’s even gone wrong yet.

You chart with one hand and hang an IV with the other. You do medication math in your head that can’t be off by a decimal — because a decimal is someone’s life. You walk into a room to deliver news no one wants to hear, then walk into the next one to celebrate someone’s last round of chemo. Sometimes within the same hour.

Lunch goes cold, or doesn’t happen. Your feet ache in a way that has nothing to do with your age. You learn to read a room in two seconds flat — who’s scared, who’s in pain, who just needs someone to sit and not rush.

This is the part people don’t see. Not because we’re hiding it — it’s just quiet work, done behind curtains and closed doors.

But here’s what over 30 years has taught me: none of that is the hard part. The hard part would be not caring enough to notice. The exhaustion is real — and so is the honor of being the person someone trusts with their worst day, and the person they remember on their best one.

We don’t do this because it’s easy. We do it because it matters, and because we’re good at something the world genuinely needs.

So if you know a nurse — that’s what’s behind the tired eyes. Not a complaint. A calling, still standing after a long shift.

They used to tell us 50 was the finish line.

Turns out nobody told my reflection that.

I’m not starting over. I never lost anything worth starting over from — the years, the shifts, the lessons, the people I’ve helped along the way… that’s not baggage. That’s the foundation.

And this one right here? 👉 Audrey. My nursing school classmate turned lifelong friend turned basically-sister. Different hospitals, same calling. We’ve built our own things separately, side by side, cheering each other on the whole way — because reinvention hits different when you’ve got someone walking it with you.

So no, I’m not giving anything up. I’m expanding. With every year of experience behind me, not despite it.

If you’ve ever felt like you needed permission to bet on yourself again — this is it. 🤍

Some friendships are built over coffee. Ours seems to bloom wherever flowers are growing. 🌻💜

From lavender fields to sunflower farms, we’ve somehow turned “Let’s go after work” into some of my favorite memories. Two nurses, two business owners, two women who appreciate beautiful places, good conversations, and never miss an excuse to stop and admire something in bloom.

Life can get busy, but these little traditions remind me that happiness doesn’t always have to be extravagant. Sometimes it’s a golden sunset, endless rows of sunflowers, uncontrollable laughter, and a friend who enjoys the same simple joys you do.

So grateful for another afternoon spent chasing sunshine, flowers, and memories. Here’s to keeping this tradition alive for many seasons to come. 🌻✨

There are days that don’t need grand plans to become memorable. Just sunshine, endless sunflowers, genuine laughter, and someone to share it with.
Those are the moments that stay with you. 🌻💛

There’s a stillness you only find in a field at dusk.

There is a particular grace in a field of sunflowers at dusk — thousands of faces, each one having spent the day in quiet devotion to the light, now settling into stillness as the sun takes its final bow. I stood in the middle of it with Audrey, saying nothing, because some evenings ask only to be witnessed. 🌻🌅

Late Post 😉
Who says Wednesdays have to be ordinary? 😊

One minute we’re in our scrubs taking care of everyone else… the next we’re dressed up, watching the city lights, trying a new restaurant, singing along at a Broadway musical- &Juliet and forgetting what day of the week it is. 🤩

A little reminder to celebrate the people you love, enjoy the city you live in, and say yes to moments that make you smile.

Wednesday understood the assignment. ❤️✨
