Start your summer home maintenance chores by learning where your water main and all appliance and fixture shut offs are 👇

💠Locate your main shut-off valve and confirm it operates freely. Label it clearly if it isn't already.
💠 Walk through your home and identify the fixture shut-off valves under every sink, behind every toilet, and behind every appliance. Confirm each one turns easily.
💠 If any valve is seized, corroded, or leaking from the stem, call a licensed plumber to replace it. Do not wait for an emergency.
💠 Once you have identified all valve locations, do a quick walk through with all members of your household so that everyone in the house feels confident in being able to stop water once it starts.
💠 Consider upgrading old gate valves at critical shut-off points to modern ball valves.
💠 Share the location of the main shut-off with every adult member of your household.
💠 Install a whole-home water leak detector or automatic shut-off system for added peace of mind — especially helpful for seasonal or investment properties.

When a flood or fire hits, most people think first about their furniture, their appliances, their structural damage. Documents tend to come second — until the moment you realize you can't find your insurance policy, your passport is destroyed, or your child's birth certificate is gone.
