A near death experience hasn't slowed down Vernon based country singer songwriter Lee Dinwoodie. The well known artist released a new single on his birthday on Wednesday (January 31 st), a birthday he wasn't sure he would see.
Dinwoodie's world took a dark turn on July 23 rd, 2022. He had played an Alzheimer's fundraising event near Lumby and the next morning was found in poor condition. The singer had suffered a serious blood infection that had damaged his heart.
After being admitted to Vernon Jubilee Hospital he was quickly transferred to Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) for surgery where he it took three weeks to get the infection under control, before open heart surgery. He spent several more weeks in hospital.
The surgeries and hospital stay were followed by months of rehabilitation, walking, stretching and playing his beloved guitar, to overcome the effects of a stroke he suffered while in KGH.
“I made a conscious decision that if I fully recovered I would refocus my career. I have been very fortunate to have made a life out of my music and it has taken me some incredible places. With the encouragement of colleagues, family and friends, I started writing, performing and recording again and I’m very proud of “Nothing Like Her,” Dinwoodie said.
The upbeat track is the story of a group of guys out for drinks on a weekday night when out of the blue comes a captivating girl who can sing and dance and grabs their attention like nothing before. This is the newest of Lee’s country songs.
Lee was born in Alberta in a farming community East of Edmonton and has country in his blood, he was raised in Armstrong and now resides in Vernon.
