Today, we honour Louis Riel—a visionary leader and a pivotal figure in Canadian history.

A proud Red River Métis, Riel played a central role in bringing Manitoba into Confederation and championed the rights of the Métis people.

As we reflect on his enduring legacy, we recognize the ongoing efforts of Métis communities to advance his vision for justice, recognition, and cultural preservation. His story remains a powerful reminder of the strength, resilience, and contributions of the Métis Nation to Canada’s fabric.

Today, we observe Indigenous Veterans Day—a time to honour the service and sacrifices of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis veterans.

We extend our deepest gratitude to Indigenous veterans, active service members, and their families for their courage and commitment to protecting our shared values and way of life.

📷 Beaded poppies are a meaningful way Indigenous communities blend traditional artistry with remembrance. They are often handmade using beads, porcupine quills, and materials like moose hide, and they symbolize pride, resilience, and cultural continuity while honouring Indigenous veterans.

Today is International Inuit Day—a time to celebrate Inuit culture, language, and knowledge systems.

This day, established by the Inuit Circumpolar Council, honours the resilience and contributions of Inuit communities across Inuit Nunangat and beyond. It’s an opportunity for all of us to learn, listen, and uplift Inuit voices in shaping a sustainable future.
