CFB Esquimalt Firefighters respectfully recognize the strength, resilience, and enduring spirit of Indigenous peoples.

Today, we pause to reflect on the truths and lasting impacts of the residential school system. We honour those who were affected, remember those who never returned home, and reaffirm our commitment to listening, learning, and working toward meaningful reconciliation.

Something incredible is rolling back into the spotlight soon. Keep your eyes peeled for the big reveal!

Last week, our members travelled to Ottawa to the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Memorial to honour the firefighters who have passed in the line of duty, including our very own John Evans.

His name will be remembered for the rest of time, proudly engraved on the wall alongside the many others who are part of our firefighter family.

We will remember them. Always.

Today, we honour and remember the 343 FDNY heroes who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the name of serving their community.
Their tasks completed, their duties well done, they gave their best.

Island Ignite 2026 is proud to welcome Nyla Evans, sponsored by CFB Esquimalt Firefighters IAFF Local F-003!

When asked why she wanted to participate in Island Ignite, Nyla shared:

"I am immensely passionate about making a difference in the lives of others. I wanted to join Island Ignite because I want people to feel healthy and safe, even during the worst days of their lives."

Nyla's compassion, dedication to service, and desire to support others embody the values of the fire service. We are excited to have her join our 2026 cohort and look forward to seeing her grow, learn, and be inspired by our incredible team of volunteer mentors.

Please join us in welcoming Nyla to the Island Ignite family!
