Thanks to Mark Breslauer, CEO of Commissionaires Victoria, the Islands & Yukon, for taking time to talk to me about the future of an organization that has provided meaningful employment to Canadian veterans for generations.

For roughly 80 years, the federal government’s right of first refusal for security guard services has helped Commissionaires employ veterans transitioning from military to civilian life. Today, Commissionaires is Canada’s largest private-sector employer of veterans, employing about 3,500 across the country.

The federal government plans to end this veterans-first procurement policy in April 2027. This is entirely the wrong direction.

If the policy needs updating, we should strengthen and modernize it to create more opportunities for veterans, not eliminate a proven pathway to stable employment, community and continued service.

I’ll be supporting a petition calling on the government to reverse this decision and work with Commissionaires and Canada’s veteran community to expand meaningful employment opportunities for veterans.

Congratulations to Christian Berard on receiving his 17-Year Service Bar and Rosette with Commissionaires! 🎉🏅

After serving 27 years in the Royal Canadian Navy and achieving the rank of Master Seaman, Christian joined Commissionaires in 2009 and has been a valued member of our team ever since.

Throughout his career with Commissionaires, Christian has supported a variety of assignments across the region, including the Department of Fisheries and Oceans' Pacific Biological Station.

In 2025, Christian was promoted to Site Supervisor at the Pacific Biological Station, where he continues to lead by example through his commitment to service, teamwork, and excellence.

Thank you, Christian, for your continued contributions and leadership. We are proud to recognize this milestone and celebrate your remarkable journey with Commissionaires.

Since joining our team in 2014, Stephan has held several key roles across the organization, including dispatcher, Operations Administrative Assistant, Client Service Manager, and most recently, Security Operations Centre (SOC) Manager. His dedication, leadership, and commitment to excellence continue to make a positive impact on our team and the clients we serve.

Commissionaires will provide security solutions including mobile patrol services and static guard coverage across multiple CVRD facilities and sites.

The wait is over! The skies above Victoria are about to come alive as the Canadian Forces Snowbirds celebrate their incredible 55th Anniversary with the Snowbirds Spectacular!

At 5:00 PM, all eyes turn skyward over Dallas Road Waterfront for an unforgettable display of precision, power, and Canadian pride. 🇨🇦

Before you head out, a few tips to help make your day amazing:

☀️ Wear sunscreen and a hat.

💧 Stay hydrated.

🔭 Bring binoculars if you have them. You'll be amazed at what you can see!

🚧 Expect road closures and extra traffic. Please be patient with our event staff, volunteers, and first responders who are working hard to keep everyone safe.

🩵 Need help? Look for our incredible volunteers wearing event lanyards. They're there to help!

👏 Most importantly... cheer loud for our iconic Canadian Forces Snowbirds!

✨The accessible parking can be accessed from Douglas street starting at 3 pm until it’s full. Then spectators can make their way just over to Dallas and we will have a shuttle or golf cart available to take you to a viewing sight.
