Bank of Canada governor not ruling out mild recession

The Bank of Canada raises rates by another ¼ point to 4.5% for the past eight consecutive meetings, indicating a pause for future hikes as we are turning a corner in meeting with target inflation.

While the Bank of Canada acknowledges that the rate increases may be challenging for households, citing a mild recession ahead, Governor of Bank of Canada, Tiff Macklem, stated in the news conference “ We're not predicting a recession, we’re predicting roughly zero growth for the next two or three quarters. But, look with roughly zero growth, we could get two or three quarters of slightly negative growth. So we can't rule out a mild recession."

All five of Canada's biggest lender raised their own prime lending rates in response, adding the same 0.25 percentage point adjustment, to bring their rates to 6.7 per cent, starting Thursday.

On behalf of all of us at Payline, a $2000 donation has been made to the Mustard Seed, the largest foodbank on Vancouver Island that serves over 1000 hampers a month. Food hampers have become a tradition of Payline, carrying on a youth initiative in helping to transform our community.
In the spirit of giving, Payline encourages you to show how you can best support your community.

Our offices will be closed Dec 26th and 27th with an early closure on Dec 23rd to spend with our family and friends.
